Grès will launch a new women's fragrance called Ambre de Cabochard, inspired by the famous chypre fragrance Cabochard which was introduced in 1959. Ambre de Cabochard is the first Oriental perfume created by Parfums Grès. It is described as a sophisticated fragrance combining tradition and modernity. The scent was created by Jean Claude Delville and Jean-Pierre Béthouart of Firmenich and the packaging by Fabrice Legros.
Top notes are berries, fruits, and spices. Heart is composed of amber. Base notes are Tonka, vanilla, and musk. Ambre de Cabochard will be available from spring 2007, as a 50ml and 100ml edt spray. Source: The Moodie Report
Parfums Grès is preparing to introduce a flanker to Cabotine called Fleur de Cabotine. It will be available from spring 2007. The perfume was composed by Jean Claude Delville and Jean-Pierre Béthouart of Firmenich and the flacon and outer packaging designed by Fabrice Legros. The fragrance is described as "...a refreshing, feminine floral. The top notes include syringa flower and mandarin; the heart lily, orchid, peony and cactus blossom. The base is a blend of nectarine, heliotrope and musk". Fleur de Cabotine will be available as a 50ml and 100ml edt spray. Source: The Moodie Report

Pierre Dinand after designing perfume bottles for 40 years has turned to sculpture. You can visit his site to learn more about the master's work and even purchase a small version of a bronze sculpture conceived of as the integration of several famous fragrance flacons into one unique brute form. Personally, I love it and find the price surprisingly reasonable!
The original work can be seen at the Oita Kaori-no Mori perfume museum in Kiushu, Japan. The smaller replica of the sculpture is sold for $200.
The finalists for the Duftstars 2007 for women's and men's perfumes in each of the four newly redefined categories were announced in Germany. The Duftstars are the equivalent of the US Fifi Awards. Ursula Ackermann of Perfumery Douglas said they were happy to be able to report, paraphrasing the traditional annoucement for the election of a new Pope, that they had finally come up with the nominees "Habemus Nominees". The jury, reportedly, was particularly focused this year in a context of higher expectations while using for the first time the new competition categories designed by the Fragrance Foundation Germany. The new four categories are: Exclusiv (niche) , Prestige, Lifestyle, Klassiker. The winners will be announced in March 2007. The crystal trophy was designed by Pierre Dinand and represents two pillars showcasing a drop.
And the list of nominees (without the Price of the Public) are...

Omnia Crystalline was introduced in 2005, two years after Omnia. The perfume was created by Alberto Morillas the nose behind many a great perfumes including Flower Le Parfum by Kenzo, Panthère by Cartier, M7 by YSL, and Bulgari Omnia, amongst others. According to WWD, "It started with a notion of transparency and luminosity," Paolo Alberti, vice president of the perfume and licenses division for Bulgari, said of the scent. "We wanted to make a jewel-like object that had maximum purity and light. Our heritage in jewelry made the pureness of crystals and the name Crystalline come to mind immediately."....

"Compared to other things I do, creating perfumes is relatively painless. Sometimes you kill yourself for designs, a shirt that's gone in a season and then the collection is over and you have to think of something new. There's something nice about the permanence of fragrance. Think how great the guy who developed Opium must feel -- it's still great, it's still out there, it's still going." Note: Jean-Louis Sieuzac created Opium in 1977.
Gucci Pour Homme Eau de Toilette was created in 2003 by perfumer Michel Almairac of Robertet. As already mentioned earlier on The Scented Salamander, Almairac is also "...the author of the wonderful Burberry London for Women, Lumière by Rochas, Voleur de Roses by L'Artisan Parfumeur, Cabaret by Grès, and Minotaure by Paloma Picasso, amongst others". The perfume was composed under the creative direction of Tom Ford. The Gucci Pour Homme referred to here, composed by Michel Almairac, and launched in 2003 is not be confused with the Gucci Pour Homme introduced in 1976 which is a chypre and was composed by nose Guy Robert. The latter is discontinued....
