Imperial Majesty_RojaDove.jpg

Roja Dove talks about the opening of a new Haute Parfumerie in Edinburgh, Scotland, the redefinition of luxury today, his elite collection of fragrances, his career with Guerlain and more. We learn that we owe him the resurrections of Quadrille and Le Dix by Balenciaga and that he is currently attempting to accomplish the same feat with two Weil fragrances...

The 5th Sense in the News: The New Perfume Consumers & The Celebrity Trend: Simon Cowell, David Yurman, Jean-Claude Ellena (no, he just makes them), and Kiss

kiss.jpg

There is an article by Rob Walker in the New York Times of October 22 2006 on the new consumerist trends in the perfume markets, including, of course, the celebrity perfume trend.

The Smell Test

Simon Cowell thinks it's a good trend and says he is considering giving it a go "There's this cologne I really like and it's not very well known, so I'm thinking of partnering up with them and giving it my name," he said. And what will Cowell's scent reek of? "It's very citrus-y, it smells of limes," the 47-year-old said of the fruity fragrance" in Inside Entertainement...

Chantecaille Eaux Florales (2006): TLC with Flowers {New Fragrances}

Chantecaille-Menthe-Poivrée.jpg
Beauty and perfume brand Chantecaille have released a collection of five floral fragrances with aromatherapeutic virtues going in the direction of, shall we call it, a "spa-fragrance" trend one can notice in the market, but also numerous hammam-inspired brands in France). Although being a multisecular tradition before being a trend, the more modern interest in the "eaux de soins" and the medicinal side of perfumes was certainly revived by Eau Dynamisante by Clarins in 1987. This time, it is a trend nestled within the wider context of a renewal of interest for spas. Perfumewise, it is not enough to think about just smelling good these days, it is also important to think about your well-being and taking actively care of yourself by choosing effective effluvia...

Scented Paths & Fragrant Addresses: Opening of the Annette Green Perfume Museum, The Fashion Makes Scents Exhibit

Annette_Green.jpg

A new perfume museum, the Annette Green Perfume Museum opened in downtown Los Angeles on 17 October 2006. Its fund is made up of a collection of 1, 600 fragrance bottles collected by the emeritus president of the New York-based Fragrance Foundation. This new permanent collection succeeds to the Annette Green Museum at the Fragrance Foundation previously opened in 1999 which is considered to be the first fragrance museum in the US.

The originality of the new museum is that it looks at perfume history as closely interrelated with that of fashion. It is located at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising...

Fragrance News: Stick Scents Home Fragrances Will Hit Drugstore Chains (with New Holiday Scents)

stickscents.jpg

Beauty Bureau’s founder, Maryann Mihalopoulos first created Xçla Aromasticks, a line of home fragrance reed diffusers after a trip she made to Greece in 2001. Seeing the opportunity of bringing her more upscale home fragrances to the mass market, Mihalopoulos introduced Stick Scents in October of 2005 with a suggested retail price point of $24.99 for an 8oz. reed diffuser. The quality of the essential oils remains the same but the packaging is less expensive...

New Perfumes: Neroli Jasmin, Cotton, Sequin Sparkle, & Cozy Cashmere by The Body Shop

cozycashmere.jpg

The Body Shop has issued four new perfumes: Neroli Jasmin, Cotton, Sequin Sparkle, and Cozy Cashmere.

After testing them I can tell you in particular that Cozy Cashmere is in fact a not-so-subtle copy of Angel by Thierry Mugler. A lot of [........] (you can fill in) fruity-floral notes for the others.

Neroli Jasmin retails for $20. The perfume oils retail for $14.

For more information you can visit The Body Shop website.

Beautiful Black Perfume Bottles & Smelling Black {Scented Thoughts & Perfume List}

malevich_black.jpg

I have finally come up with a list of Beautiful Black Perfume Bottles. Writing down these names and comparing the bottles amongst themselves made me realize certain common points that they share and some of the ideas regarding the treatment in black of perfume bottles. I will pick a few to see if the contents match the aesthetics of the flacon.

I have already come up with the thought that some perfumes should be dressed in black to convey the full impact of their personalities, like Dzing!, Femme, Youth-Dew, Royal Secret, Réglisse, Sables, Patchouli Antique, or Lonestar Memories (yes, Andy). Which brings me to think that Coffee scents, as I see it, would be enhanced by black flacons for containers although if that became a dictum it would soon become boring. When I try imagining a coffee scent held captive in a pink bottle, it somehows makes me feel ill in the stomach...
