Interview of Roja Dove on CNN {The 5th Sense in the News}

Roja Dove CNN.jpg

There is an interview of Roja Dove on Money CNN. Scroll down the main page and click on "Celebrity Scents" to hear his views on the celebrity fragrance market. Some highlights: people are not really interested in how a celeb perfume smells, but more in buying into a lifestyle; the perfumer is the one who spends the least amount of time on a celebrity scent because the majority of the energy goes into the marketing; and these types of perfumes are generally bland, with simple structures, and to put it politely, are "innocuous".  Still, we think, some celebrity scents are better than others. It would be interesting to ascertain more closely which ones.

Luca Turin on Etat Libre d'Orange in NZZ Folio {Fragrant Reading}

Luca Turin.jpg

Perfume critic Luca Turin writes a monthly column in NZZ Folio. This time he turns his attention to Etat Libre d'Orange and gives it two thumbs up. His favorite from the line or at least the one he thinks is the most interesting? The controversial Sécrétions Magnifiques.

The masterpiece is, in my opinion, Lie’s Sécrétions Magnifiques, helpfully illustrated on the website by a schoolboy drawing of an ejaculating penis. What he has done is revolutionary: he has used a nitrile as a main note in a fine fragrance. In plain language, he has put a loud note of harbor bilge in an elegant floral and made it fly.

{Perfume Q & A} with Giselle Richardson of Barfumeria - Tastes of Summer: 2007 Bestseller Summery Fragrances

Barfumeria.jpg

Giselle Richardson is the founder and owner of the Barfumeria, an upscale niche perfumery with an avant-garde sensitivity located in Madrid and established in 2003. She kindly accepted to answer our Q & A despite her hectic travel schedule these days. The Spaniards are reputed for their particular appreciation and love of fresh hesperidic scents and the list offered here seems to not go counter-current this trend.

Cosmetic News said that the boutique's standout features were: "The fragrance bar, generous samples and 'cutting edge' products discovered by Richardson and her assistant in their non-stop travels." And concluded that the boutique was "the height of chic".......

Chanel No.5 Eau Première {New Fragrance}

Chanel no5 Eau Premiere.jpg

In October of 2007, Chanel will launch a new version of Chanel No.5 meant to be more casually worn, "This is a fresher, rounder, more delicate version intended to be used every day."
It is called Chanel No.5 Eau Première and was re-worked by in-house perfumer Jacques Polge.......

Virgin Island Water by Creed (2007) {Perfume Short (Review)}

Virgin Island Water Exclusive.jpg
Virgin Island Water is the latest perfume creation by the house of Creed, one of the oldest perfumeries in the world, established in 1760 in London then transplanted to Paris in 1854 under the patronage of Empress Eugénie of France, consort to Napoléon III. Creed have begun to prepare for their 250th anniversary and this fall there will be a traveling exhibition, which will include historical documents such as correspondence with crowned heads of states and perfume artifacts. They will also produce leather goods to reconnect with their roots as tailors. This distinguished and venerable house is, remarkably so, still family-owned. Olivier Creed has recently let more media attention focus on his son Erwin Creed who will represent the seventh generation of Creed perfumers. The latter was involved in the creation of Virgin Island Water about which he has said that he was responsible for 20% of the formulation. "A portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Natural Resources Defense Council, a charity that protects the world's oceans".......

Saks Fifth Avenue For Her by Bond No. 9 {Perfume Short (Review)} {New Fragrance/Advance Review}

Saks Bond no.9_small.jpg
It all starts with an explosion of deleterious flowers and indoles both glamorous and surrealistic like the image of a Vogue model from the 1950s sitting on a skaï couch in a fashion atelier painting her nails, her head having been replaced by a gigantic bouquet of feathery gardenias, tuberoses, and jasmines. You are dazzled by the olfactory intensity and cannot distinguish her features any more. You are intoxicated by the tuberose and feel like you are drinking tuberose vodka on the rocks. A faint whiff of pure gasoline mounts from the street 13 floors below. On top of that the model is wearing mink around her neck and it is the middle of summer. You are wondering what she is doing exactly and if you have not landed in a time warp.

Saks Fifth Avenue for Her by Bond No.9, which will come out this fall, is both perfectly tailored and exuberant, then enigmatic. It starts full throttle and keeps amazing you with its originality and beauty. The tropical blooms have a hypnotic, psychedelic quality to them before they take you by the hand and lead you into a soft-smelling green jungle that is full of obscure parts and punctuated with pools of oniric light........

{Perfume Q & A} with Dimitri Mouton & Nathalie Granger of Senteurs D'Ailleurs - Tastes of Summer: 2007 Bestseller Summery Fragrances

Senteurs d'Ailleurs.jpg

Senteurs D'Ailleurs is located in Brussels and on their website they define themselves as being "neither a straightforward perfumery, nor a concept store, Senteurs D'Ailleurs presents itself like an unique jewel case in order to open itself to a rare and exclusive olfactory universe. In other words [it is ] the alternative perfumery of the third millenium."

We interviewed with Dimitri Mouton from Sales & Marketing and Nathalie Granger, Sales Associate......

L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme Intense by Issey Miyake (2007) {New Cologne}

Issey Homme Intense side.jpg

Issey Miyake has a new version of L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme (1994) called L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Intense, which is a more sensual and warmer rendition of the original. The new scent was composed by perfumer Jacques Cavallier, also the author of its first incarnation. He said,

“[L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme] is without a doubt the fragrance I know best,” [...]“For L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Intense, I knew which rules needed to be respected.”........
