The September issue of Elle will feature an article by Megan Deem (p. 452) inviting us to follow the creations of four perfumes through the reconstructions of their story boards based on their designers' tales of inspiration. They are Christian Lacroix Rouge, DKNY Delicious Night, Diesel Fuel For Life Women, and Gwen Stefani L......

After several legendary beauties were hired by Chanel to front their perfume advertisements over the course of years such as Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, and more recently Kate Moss, Keira Knightley is the new face for Mademoiselle Coco. According to Jacques Helleu artistic director of Chanel, what prompted him more than anything else to elect Knightley were her flaws, which presented him with an opportunity to play fairy god-mother to Cinderella. The new advert where Keira Knightly poses naked, chastely clasping a bowler hat over her breasts closely references the theme of one of the adverts that was shot with Kate Moss, Keira's immediate predecessor. We could start calling them the girl-with-the-necklace-and-hat series...

Kathy B. is the owner of Colonial Drug, a perfume store established in 1947 in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and an institution both at the very local level and at the regional one. The shop easily evokes a jewelry box that would have been filled to the brim with fragrance bottles and grooming items (for pets as well) instead of gems and pearls. This image is quite literal as a matter of fact as the very top shelves of the store, the ones which seem to be an arm-length away the ceiling, are covered with giant factices of some of the most famous perfumes in the world and other shelves are touching the ceiling (see link for picture of the towering shelves). Colonial Drug is like an overfilled cornucopia of hard-to-find fragrances and as Kathy indicated when I asked her over the telephone (they do not do emails) what had been the summer of 2007 bestsellers so far, there was no clear bestseller because their customers order or come in to look for special and unique fragrances. There were rather several bestsellers that met with the favor of the public........

As previously announced, from the venerable, upscale, and well-loved Italian brand Acqua Di Parma created in 1916, comes next month a new perfume called Colonia Intensa, which will represent their first historic foray into the explicit masculine categorization of a scent. This launch comes within a market context where masculine customers are perceived as a new driving force in perfume sales encouraging a neo-virile trend in the design of fragrances, which are being trimmed of their ambiguous, unisex references......

Demeter, which is a reference in terms of realistic scents aiming to recapture the familiar or not so familiar smells that are part of our world, each composition being like an olfactory snapshot of reality, has come up with a new fragrance for its Fragrance Library called Crayon. After Play-Doh and the Jelly Bean series, this is another fun and nostalgic, for some, perfume dedicated to the world of childhood, Demeter’s Crayon smells just like that new box of Crayolas® you opened on your first day of school........

When fashion designers Badgley and Mischka were on a trip in India, one of the sights and smells that left a memorable impression on them was a moon garden, that is a magical place where only night-blooming flowers are planted and pollinated by night butterflies. They decided to transcribe that experience into a fragrance, a limited edition due out in October of 2007, which is called Fleurs de Nuit (Flowers of the Night). The scent was composed by Rodrigo Flores-Roux of Givaudan........

L'Occitane en Provence is offering a new collection of perfumes based on scents of the Mediterranean flora called Notre Flore (Our Flora). They evoke an ideal landscape of kindred Mediterranean cultures and natural environment replete with affinities. They also seemingly pay homage to writer Jean Giono, once studied by L'Occitane's founder Olivier Baussan, as the caps on the flacons are poetically reminiscent of compasses because - and we seem to hear Giono tell it himself - "in Provence, the winds carry the tales". Manosque where the L'Occitane factory is located is also the birthplace of Giono and intimately linked with his work and life. The collection comprises four fragrances: Myrte (Myrtle), Néroli, Cèdre (Cedar), and Iris.......
