Perry Ellis for Men (2008): Going Chic & Upscale {New Fragrance}

Perry Ellis is launching a new cologne for men just called Perry Ellis. Little information is casually forthcoming at this point as the new scent is not yet up on their site. But from what we can judge from the pictures of the adverts and the strip scent in Vanity Fair of June 2008, it seems to represent an effort at proposing a more upscale fragrance than is usual for them.....

The bottle is handsome and more luxurious in appearance than the other fragrances in their collection.

Without having tested on skin, but just by smelling the strip, Perry Ellis smells modern-classic but with a good level of intensity at the same time, offering main ambery (resinous), woody, and briney facets, the latter probably as an accord suggestive of the seaside. This is NOT a review, just notes. There seems to be some orris and leather in smaller proportions.

A casual little skin test later reveals a very nice musk and grapefruit accord in the style of Guerlain Pamplelune.

  1. I recently tested this from the Vanity Fair scent strip and fell in love with it.

I detect ginger grapefruit and deep woody amber down dry. My local Macy's had it and when I spritz some on my arm - I fell hook line and sinker for it.

A very rich long lasting fresh oriental scent and beautiful bottle. Since Perry Ellis has ended their partnership with Parlux Fragrances it looks like this is a step in the right direction for the name plate.

  2. Thank you for your take on the scent. In this case I think that the bottle stands as a clear sign that the brand is interested in a more upscale perfume.

  3. Umm, just wondering if you know where to get this item online?

  4. I don't see it online yet. Well if any PR is reading this, we would love to know!

  7. I live in Kansas City area and have not been able to find the new PE fragrance launched this spring. None of my Macy's have even heard of it. Is the midwest really that far behind or am I missing it somewhere else?:(

  8. It looks like we are in the early stage of their advertising campaign because the perfume does not seem to be available at the moment.

It would be less frustrating if the product could be made available immediately, but for some reason, it isn't.

Sometimes, one has to wonder whether all this reasoning about the illusion of luxury based on selectivity is the way to go.

I am really surprised at times to see how some perfume brands really don't seem that much interested in selling their wares.

  9. Ya, I even e-mailed Maxim to see if they knew where to get it. I have been trying to find it online. May give in and try the Macy's # in the ad. I tried searching by the item # but that may just be a Macy's #.

  10. Even called PE and the office personal could not even help me where to locate the cologne and really did not know anything about the new release.

  11. Strange, but not completely surprising. There was a Cindy Crawford perfume that was advertised like that 2 years ago, complete with website (but no retail information). Well, I never saw physical evidence that this perfume ever existed on the market. There wasn't any follow-up to the launch news.

  12. I am very interested in this new Perry Ellis for Men (2008).

I have been seaching in Macy's, Amazon and others Online perfume stores, but only find old Perry Ellis Frafrances.

    Anyone knows where to get
this NEW Perry Ellis for Men 2008 Online??
