Parisian lingerie brand Chantelle, which was established as far back as the 19th century in 1876, have introduced for the first time a collection of four fragrances together with a range of beauty products (more details about those in a separate post) to create four new rituals of beauty. The four perfumes are: Eau de Désir, Eau Sensuelle, Eau Elégante, and Eau Libre. The eaux de toilette were created by perfumer Delphine Thierry. To each perfume and range of body products corresponds a different color-coded universe of seduction. Women can either sample quickly the products by sliding open the Cosmetic Bar found in the Chantelle boutiques or head to the Beauty Room to test them more at leisure together with an advisor.
Eau de Désir is symbolized by red and announces an universe of "daring seduction". The perfume is described as a gourmand and sensual fragrance. Top notes are fruity with notes of yellow plum (mirabelle) and mandarine followed by a tender core including notes of chocolate, incense, rose, benzoin, and cumin. Base notes are amber, patchouli, cedar, and a soft vanilla....

In an original move, Downy have decided to partner with Gen Art to ask three emerging fashion designer talents to create clothes that will be inspired by the scents of the three new Downy fabric softeners in the Simple Pleasures Radiance Collection. This initiative inscribes itself in a movement that aims at developing the interactive arm of marketing. Consumers will be able to chime in with their ideas on the Mood Board. Perfumes in the Downy line are said to have been developed by the perfumers who created fragrances for Valentino, Escada, and Lacoste, which is also an interesting way to develop perfume-culture awareness and make consumers be more conscious about the skills that go into designing home fragrances, including laundry detergents or softeners...

The No. 1 issue of the new French version of GQ is now available. You can visit their site; there is a comic video ad for the launch of the magazine that tries to answer the question: "does the ideal man exist?" (the 2 mn version on the right hand-side is funnier). Lancement du premier numéro de la version française de GQ ou Gentlemen's Quarterly. Pub marrante à savourer sur le côté droit du site (la version longue de 2 mn est plus drôle ou plus lourde, comme on voudra!).

We reported last fall about the launch of a new Italian line of fragrances called Memento. Here are some more information about their first creation bearing the title 22 Settembre 2007, Ore 8, Vaporetto Per Il Lido Venezia, which reads like an excerpt from a personal diary. It is a very good perfume, but rather than to spray it on the passers-by they decided to offer visual stimulation to potential customers and onlookers. It then cedes to a sensual middle note of spices and flowers – clove, cinnamon, ginger, pink peppercorns, geranium, lavender and orange blossom. Benzoin balm, tonka bean and a hint of patchouli round out the persistent aura of the original L’Eau bouquet."....

There is an article in the New York Times that attempts to interpret the drop in sales and perfume-wearing in the US which was reported recently by the NPD Group. Article is The Sweet Smell of Nothing Some comments: Interestingly, this exacerbation of invisible social tensions between people who are wearing and smelling perfume in the public space seems to be more characteristic of North America and Canada and has been frequently covered in the press in that region (this specificity was not expounded upon in the article). Taking a step back, one could think that it may be linked to over-sensitization and change of sensibilities as a result of anti-smoking policies in public spaces. Some people have noted that while they did not use to notice cigarette smoking so much twenty or thirty years ago, they have been made to be hyper conscious of the smell today. New social boundaries have been defined where volatiles are concerned and perfume may be logically following suit....
