François Joyaux, who used to be best known as a specialist of political sciences and Asia (cf. La Nouvelle Question d'Extrême-Orient), has become a renowned rose expert and author. He has already written several books on the topic including his latest one bearing the title Les Roses de l'Impératrice: la rosomanie au temps de Joséphine (The Roses of the Empress: rose mania in the times of Joséphine), in which he studies the rose craze in the society of the First Empire which reflected itself in all aspects of culture and society from architectural ornamentation to rose collecting. Joséphine de Beauharnais in particular is famous for having developed a unique collection of roses in the greenhouses at Malmaison, which were drawn very precisely by artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840) and published in a book of prints called Les Roses (1817-1824)....... The Russian news agency Regnum has announced that a new perfume museum has opened its doors yesterday in the ancient capital of the tsars in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. It is located on the territory of the Severnoe Siyanie (Aurora Borealis) perfume manufactory plant. The collection comprises unique artifacts of the art of perfumery from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, cosmetics from the revolutionary and war periods, samples of fine Soviet perfumes, including legendary ones.....

Gail Gordon together with her sister Suzan Theriault have opened a new beauty spot in Rockland, Maine called Harbor Beauty Bar. The main concept here is to offer beauty products and fragrances as you would showcase jewelry and to do so in sea-resort towns. The owners are natives of Rockland. They plan to open another boutique in the future in Newport, Rhode Island. Their new sanctuary carries some carefully selected fragrances and beauty products, including men's beauty products. Starting in May of 2007, Guerlain will inaugurate a new series of perfumery workshops that will be open to the public. There will be workshops for adults called Les Contes Parfumés (Perfumed Tales) where 10 people at a time will be initiated to the history of Guerlain and to the creation of a perfume.....

The Musée International de la Parfumerie de Grasse will reopen in early 2008 after having closed in December of 2005 to conduct its renovation project. The new museum will have doubled its size to 3000 m2 and will be organized around three locations: the Hôtel Morel-Amic, an 18th century building, the Pélissier building, and the existing museum. The architect for the project is Frédéric Joung.The ARMIP (Association for the International Perfume Museum), led by perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, has contributed to the project.
