Frenchdandy.jpeg

In honor of Father's Day I have decided to list some of the men's fragrances that I have been wanting to try or revisit for some time.

• Eau Sauvage by Dior

Eau Sauvage, the myth...Edmond Roudnitska, its creator, one of the most demanding perfumers that's ever walked the face of the earth...its unisex, even universal appeal...what more could I say? Ah, yes, it's a great summer scent too.....

Fragrance News: Agent Provocateur to Launch New Perfume called Maîtresse

agentprovocateur_pourmaîtresse.jpg

The lingerie label Agent Provocateur will launch its second fragrance in August 2006, an enticing juice containing Iso E super called Maîtresse (Mistress) as part of its effort  to establish itself as a "house of fragrances." The new perfume was developed over the course of four years by nose Azzi Glasser Christian Provenzano in collaboration with Joe Corre and Serena Rees. (Azzi Glasser is the marketing director for the fragrance, not its author. Source: Christian Provenzano).

It is described as a perfume using modern aldehydes throughout its composition without conforming to any family of perfumes. "Top notes include white lotus petals and ylang ylang with a heart of osmanthus flower, jasmin sambac and orris bud together with rose absolute and violet leaves. The base accord combines white suede, musk, Iso E super and hot amber oils." A special manufacturing process requires that the juice be left to steep for five weeks before being bottled.

It will be available starting August 31 exclusively at Selfridges in London and in Agent Provocateur stores. It will roll out to the rest of the UK on September 18. 50 and 100 ml bottles will be available at Pounds 44 and 62.

Scented Thoughts: My Favorite Summmer Scents, Part 0

Summer_Alice_Dalton_Brown.jpeg

Finally, I am coming around to finalizing my list of fantafabulous scents for the summer. I hesitated between offering a hyper selective list of my top favorite in the different families of perfumes or composing a list revealing clusters of my most cherished scents for summer. I have decided to go for the second option because lists are also fun as exploratory tools, not just as embodiments of a perfect world and ideal life transliterated into perfumes. This allows me to bring together both old, historical favorites and new favorites; I could even include future favorites thanks to my uncanny sense of intuition, but I will stop there and not revel in the unseen...

New Perfumes: 09h25, 15h10, & 20h50 by Irie Wash

iriewash.jpg

Japanese designer Irie Wash has created a series of three unisex fragrances that are meant to be the expressions of three different times of the day, that is, 09h25, 15h10, and 20h50. The times were arbitrarily chosen and they are to be seen as "three different chronicles of time". Calabrian lemon is the one note that links all three perfumes.

09h25 is meant to evoke "the time of departure, an appointment, a movement towards the sun." Top notes are Calabrian lemon, Brazilian orange, bergamot. Middle notes are green tea, Chinese mint, star anise, neroli. Base notes are Atlas blue cedar, Mysore sandalwood, Indian tea.

15h10 illustrates "the wrist, the nape of the neck, drop by drop, in the light." Top notes are Calabrian lemon, red mandarine, guava. Middle notes are lemon tree blossom, mandarine blossom, neroli. Base notes are African lemon, Virginian cedar, Australian sandalwood.

20h50 is described as evoking "later, closer, elsewhere, under the lemon trees." Top notes are Calabrian lemon, grapefruit peel, petitgrain bigaradier, Haitian sweet lime. Middle notes are Provençal white thyme, lemon tree blossom, jasmine sambac. Base notes are Javanese vetiver, cedar wood, heliotrope blossom.

The fragrances come in sets of either 3 travel size bottles of 25 ml of the same perfume or of all three different perfumes. A set retails for 48 Euros. More information can be found on Irie Wash's website.

Perfume List: My Favorite Summmer Scents, Part 1

Summer-Cottage-Print-C10044126.jpeg

1 - Favorite Summer Musk scents:

Pamplelune by Guerlain

Although no musk is officially included in this fragrance, as far as I can tell, it has a marked musky accord of the raw, uriney type. It smells like sophisticated sweat.

L'Autre by Diptyque

This one is very spicy and very musky. The musk note or accord is of the raw, dry, uriney variety. It smells like the armpits of a sexy, unshowered man, pardon my bluntness and giggle of delight.

Egyptian Garden by V’Tae

It has a pronounced musky accord or note blended together with spices. It starts off smelling like the sweeter type of musk one finds in Musc Ravageur and ends up smelling slightly uriney. It has a great, spicy, and animalic drydown which I find very sensual.

Jasmin de Nuit by The Different Company

It's a very musky jasmine. It is an interesting dualistic perfume associating the animalic with the floral while managing to keep these two themes separate from each other.

Scented Quote of the Day, from The Coldplay:

deodorant_stones_america01.jpg
Ode to Deodorant

Here's an Ode, ah, to deodorant
It's my thing, ah it's my favourite hygiene
It keeps me through the day

Another ode, ah to deodorant
It's my thing, ah it's my favourite hygiene
It's the confidence I need

It's medicine for the soul
It's medicine for the mind
It picks me up and makes me whole
It makes me feel alright
