Cravache_Piguet.jpg

As announced earlier, Robert Piguet's classic fragrance from 1963, Cravache (Riding Crop), will be re-launched in October of 2007 having been reportedly rebalanced to better suit modern tastes while respecting the heritage of the house. It follows the recent re-introduction and reformulation of Baghari last year, while Fracas and Bandit had been already relaunched, respectively in 1996 and 1999.

Cravache is described as "an aromatic infusion of citrus and woods [which] embodies Robert Piguet's sense of refined sophistication and quality.......

The jus "has been rebalanced to blend modern radiance and retro glamour." It will be part of a duet launch together with Cravache. The perfumer responsible for the reformulation is Aurélien Guichard who also took care of modernizing Baghari, reissued last year. Article on Fragonard Perfumery in the New York Times {The 5th Sense in the News}

Fragonard_Patchouly.jpg

There is an article on the Fragonard perfumery in Grasse in the New York Times today:

“We are a very small company, and we have the luxury to decide what we want and when we want it,” said Agnès Costa-Webster, who, along with her sisters, Françoise and Anne Costa, now runs the business her great-grandfather, Eugène Fuchs, founded in 1926. “I'll think, ‘Well, that would smell good for men if we mix some woods with some raspberry,' and then I speak with the nose and we start thinking about the name and the packaging. Everything is done following our own soul.”

Article on the Soliflore Comeback....in Foodstuffs & Cosmetics in Le Monde {The 5th Sense in the News}

mamie_nova_violette.JPG

A trend that is not completely new in France, but has taken more significance lately is the use of old-fashioned floral scents to perfume all sorts of foodstuffs ranging from pastries and drinks to yoghurts and sugar. Violet and rose scents are especially popular, but offerings can also include, jasmine, lavender or even poppy. Monin offers delicately scented flower syrups and Quai Sud proposes floral sugars.....

E. Coudray is one of the oldest perfumeries still in existence. It was established in 1822 by chemist-doctor Edmond Coudray under the reign of Louis XVIII, 6 years before Guerlain.

In September of 2007, E. Coudray will launch a new fragrance called Esperys, the 7th addition to their current catalogue.....

3121 by Prince {Perfume Short (Review)} {New Perfume}

3121_Mosaic.jpg

3121 by Prince is a big va va voom of an exotic floral scent. If it were not for that sense of calculated excess and amplified decibels where the floral notes and sexual indoles are concerned, it would be a plain ol’ romantic classic white floral perfume fit for a dainty Southern belle made easily faint by the humid heat....

Musk Hall of Fame: A List of the Best &/or Most Talked About Musk Perfumes {Perfume List} {Perfume Short (Reviews)}

Rue du Petit Musc.jpg

Without further ado, here is our Musk Hall of Fame list that offers short and longer reviews of eminent musk perfumes and our very favorite ones (at the end).

Auric Blends Love

A subtle clean yet warm musk oil perfume with woodsy undertones

Auric Blends Egyptian Goddess

The most popular perfume in the line and a mild sexy floral Egyptian musk that blooms beautifully on the skin making you think of natural flowers.

V’Tae Egyptian Garden

It smells like a musk perfume from the Egyptian antiquity would, steeped in herbs, mysterious unguents, and secret macerated formulas. It used to be worn by a high Egyptian priestess and evokes the honey, date, and almond effluvia that wafted from her well-oiled and well-massaged body. Longevity is so-so.

Gap Musk

A clean discreet, and lightly sweet white musk oil.

Coty Wild Musk Oil

The oil, we think, is better than the alcohol-based versions. A sweet woodsy musk oil reminiscent of high school dates for many people.

Kiehl's Original Musk Oil

This is another classic musk oil that we also prefer in the oil-based formula. It was discovered abandoned in a turn-of-the-century to 1920s vat labelled "Love Oil" in the basement of Kiehl’s, established 1851. Everyone went crazy for it decades later. A musk oil with a marked floral lily of the valley facet, which is a natural phenomenon associated with musk in small quantities.......

Louve_Lutens.jpg

Louve is the latest release by Serge Lutens and is now available in-store at Palais Royal Shiseido and online at La Mûre Favorite, 50 ml for $128. WWD had previously mentioned an evocative-sounding "white" jus, but it looks simply and very plainly transparent....

LVMH is Prosecuting eBay & Forbidding Vendors to Sell Their Fragrances {The 5th Sense in the News}

eBay_Dior.jpg

LVMH (Moët Hennessy. Louis Vuitton) is now prosecuting eBay for allowing sellers to sell Christian Dior, Guerlain,  Kenzo, and Givenchy fragrances. The problem revolves mainly around selective-distribution and quality-control issues. (sorry I don't have the time to translate excerpts from the French text now)

Public Interest Announcement Regarding Serge Lutens Fragrances Sold on eBay (Updated) {Fragrance News}

It has come to my attention that Shiseido, which owns Serge Lutens fragrances, have undertaken legal actions against eBay and sellers in particular that have sold flacons of Louve and Sarrasins on eBay. I have been told that they are also looking for the persons who bought them and would appreciate it if these persons would contact them before they are contacted by their own people. They reiterated that it is not legal to procure these perfumes at this point as the fragrances are not yet on the market. There was also an issue with a stolen shipment, which makes people who buy these perfumes potential accomplices for handling stolen goods.

In fact, our previous announcement about availability at La Mûre Favorite poses a problem because they are not allowed to sell Louve online at this point. I was told that the Palais Royal Shiseido has Louve only for members of the press to sniff.
