February 9, 2007Meet Camille Goutal at Aedes on 12 February 2007 {Scented Paths & Fragrant Addresses}Overview of New Perfume Line Etat Libre d'Orange: Libertinage of the Nose or Porno-Chic? {Scented Thoughts}
Before the very moment of olfactory apprehension of a perfume, there are those important preceding instants where the perfume lover anticipates smelling the jus, dreams about it, fears disappointment, and finally lets the dices of fate roll by taking a stroll to the perfumery. [...] On my way to Etat Libre d'Orange, I stop in front of the attractive window of a store called Les Mille Feuilles and lose myself in the contemplation of an array of whimsical objects. One item catches my attention: a bust of an 18th century-looking masculine figure with a feminine virginal narrow bejewelled crown on its head. It suddenly reminds me of a terrifying anecdote told to me by a friend whose grand-father had indulged in the heights of, seemingly, ancien régime libertine debauchery. Namely that the marquis' moral cruelty and esprit de libertinage had led him to spend his wedding night with revellers all the while dressed up in his new wife's bridal gown and virginal veil. To crown it all, the marquis' wife many years later ended up being institutionalized by the family...... February 10, 2007The Collection by Matthew Williamson: Lotus, Warm Sand, Jasmine Sambac, & Incense {New Perfumes}
This spring season is starting with a big bang of announcements regarding trendy collections of scents to come. After Chanel and Tom Ford, Matthew Williamson is proposing The Collection. It will include four scents called Lotus, Warm Sand, Jasmine Sambac, and Incense whose inspirations are derived from notes contained in the initial fragrance created under the Matthew Williamson label.....
Sexiness Expert Dusan Z Offers a List of Perfumes To Wear On Valentine's Day {Perfume List} {Men's Colognes}“I’m too sexy for Milan, Too sexy for Milan, New York and Japan.” An Article by Dusan Z Yeah, I wish. Picture your granny (no disrespect to Grannies Worldwide) in Victoria’s Secret’s latest lace extravaganza. Yep, she is sexy, not me. From time to time, though, I like to slather myself with a certain scent believing it will give me the aura of sexiness that I desperately need around me. The one that always manages to arouse (only me, of course) is Opium Pour Homme. Ah, oh, ooh and all manner of interjections come out of the bottle. It’s hot, smoldering, spicy and rich and so plush and creamy in the drydown that I just want to sneak off from seeing eyes and have mindblowing sex with myself. (Did I just say that out loud?). For a more intimate atmosphere I suggest the velvety EDP as it lacks the jarring fresh note in the EDT which will, however, make you stand out in the crowd...... New Perfume Arrivals at Luckyscent: MDCI Perfumes, Heeley Cèdre Blanc, Anné Pliska {Shopping Tips}You can now place pre-orders for the new MDCI line of perfumes at Luckyscent. Its owner Claude Marchal has developed five fragrances in collaboration with renowned perfumers Francis Kurkdjian, Pierre Bourdon, and Stéphanie Bakouche. It is a great example of how the so-called luxury perfume industry can meet niche perfumery as these noses usually work for much more maisntream brand names. The lines are therefore getting blurrier between the two sectors in terms of who the creators are. For well-established noses, it is a way for them to create more personal fragrances liberated from some of the constraints of the big industry.... Sunset Heat & Sunset Heat for Men by Escada {New Perfumes}
Escada continues to launch yearly summer limited editions. This time, the brand is issuing not only a women's fragrance but a men's as well. Sunset Heat for Men is described a s a woody aquatic fragrance and has notes of starfruit, combava (a tart little citrus fruit), ocean breeze, lavender, floated wood, and willywood. Sunset Heat the feminine version is, not surprisingly, a fruity floral and has notes of papaya, citrus, mango, pineaple, watermelon, peach, hibiscus, and sandalwood. Source: Cosmetic News Olivier Cresp Is Awarded The Title of Maître Parfumeur at Firmenich {Fragrance News}
Perfumer Olivier Cresp has been awarded the title of "Maître Parfumeur" (Master Perfumer) by Firmenich. The title rewards not only creative qualities, but human ones as well. Firmenich justified its choice by saying that the decision was made with regard to his contribution "to the evolution of modern perfumery, his eminent qualities as a person and a creator as well as for his highly valued involvement with Firmenich."..... Love Potions Or My Top Super Sexy Scents for Valentine's Day & Beyond {Scented Thoughts} {Perfume List} {Shopping Tips}Valentine's Day is upon us; don't you feel the excitement? I have a date with my husband and I know what cologne I will be offering him (see below included in the list of perfume recommendations for V Day.) I have taken this opportunity to compile a list of perfumes I think are particularly sexy - men on the street tend to sniff harder around these or smile brighter smiles - or which alternatively have that reputation and that I plan to try. They are usually one of two kinds for me; either they offer a kind of dry, feminine, and sophisticated sillage which puts a certain seductive distance. Or they are perfumes that have been made to blend in particularly well with your skin. I am not referring to one's personal body chemistry but to fragrances that explicitly use ingredients or bases that enhance the scent of one's skin. Perfumes as Love Potions In popular parlance, terms like "love elixir" or "love philter" and even more commonly "love potion" have come to designate perfumes that have such mysterious effect ascribed to them as to be capable of arousing extreme sensual thoughts and even invite deeper amorous feelings through the sheer power of their scents. The very word "philter" speaks of love as it comes from Latin "philtrum" which borrowed the term from Greek "philtron" which in turn is derived from Greek "phileo" meaning "to love". We see a transfer of meaning from the original notion regarding what a love potion is. Originally - and nowhere else is it more famously illustrated than in the myth of Tristan and Isolde in the West - a love potion would have had to have been ingurgitated so that the magical combination of the various ingredients contained in it would have had the effect of securing eternal love through their absorption..... February 13, 2007Zegna Intenso by Ermenegildo Zegna {New Perfume}
We already reported about the new Zegna Intenso. Now we learn that the perfume is constructed around an olfactory chiaro-oscuro effect. It mixes extremely fresh notes like those of green mandarin and Italian lemon with subtly spicy accents of cardamom and pink pepper and more oriental notes of orris, vetiver, cedar, vanilla, and musk. The perfume was composed by nose Daniela Andrier and will debut in April 2007. Ermenegildo Zegna has also opened a new boutique on three levels in Paris at 376 rue Saint Honoré. Intimately Beckham for Him was created in 2006 as part of a duo of fragrances, together with Intimately Beckham for Her. The idea was to capitalize on the celebrity of the couple composed of David and Victoria Beckham.The ad campaign wanted to lead the consummer into believing that he or she would be voyeuristically stealing a moment of intimacy in the life of the famous couple. The ad photo was supposed to be particularly sexy; instead everyone ended up discussing the size-enhancement or lack thereof of Posh Spice's derrière. Ah, the irony of fate..... ![]() |
