Scented Quote of the Day, from Sean Combs:

Sean Combs P Diddy.jpg
Sean Combs tells us what's what: "I am going to challenge my female counterparts, from J.Lo, Mariah (Carey), Sarah Jessica Parker to Gwen Stefani that my fragrance is better than theirs. "I am a man, and I know how a woman should smell."

Queen of the Fire Tassels by Opus Oils {New Perfume}

Satan's Angel Queen of the Fire Tassels.jpg

If you love very niche perfumes created in reference to interesting sub-cultures, here is the scoop: Opus Oils is preparing to introduce a new Eau de Parfum fragrance created for strip teaser and exotic dancer Satan's Angel and which is called Queen of the Fire Tassels. If Agent Provocateur Strip might represent the safe fantasy of being a strip teaser under your business suit, this new scent apparently is the real thing. The next question is: when is Dita Von Teese going to launch her own perfume? There seems to be something missing in the logical sequence of events,

From the press release:

"Hollywood, CA – Sept. 19th, 2007 – Opus Oils, a Perfume Atelier located in the heart of glamorous Hollywood, CA announced today the Official Launch & Release of their new Satan’s Angel “Queen of the Fire Tassels” 1oz Eau de Parfum.  Strong and wild like the Lady who inspired it, this sultry, narcotic floral bomb explodes with key notes of Gardenia, Narcissus, Tuberose, Stargazer Lily, Jasmine, Bergamot & Pink Grapefruit, and finishes with a velvet Cypher dry-down reminiscent of glamorous days gone by.......

Fish Net Bottle Trend3.jpg

More Info on the Re-Launch of Coty Stetson Original with Tom Brady {Fragrance News}

Tom Brady Stetson Rockmount Ranch Wear.jpg

This is a picture of Tom Brady in Rockmount Ranch Wear which can get us accustomed to the idea that Brady looks good in cowboy gear although he is most commonly associated with the New England Patriots. By the way, Rockmount shirts seem to be particularly sought after and are often used in the movie industry. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, for example, both wore Rockmount shirts in Brokeback Mountain (see their celebrity gallery).

Back to Brady. We announced previously that Tom Brady is the new man fronting the Stetson colognes ads (included in the post is a behind-the-scenes pic from the photo shoot). Here is more information about the re-launch of Stetson Original this fall which is currently scheduled for November 2007. No official picture from the advertising campaign yet, but more details can be found in the press release,

"Who is today’s ultimate Stetson man? The expression of the great American outdoors, of freedom, of confidence and masculinity? TOM BRADY.  His appeal goes beyond his sporting skills and success, beyond his New England Patriots team, beyond the Superbowl.  He is rugged, down to earth, competitive, fair minded and honestly handsome.  A man with his own style and his own special magnetism. Whose independence of spirit and assured authenticity are his trademark......

New Perfume + Perfume Naming Contest by Bourbon French Parfums {New Perfume} {Fragrance News}

Bourbon French Parfums.jpg

This is our first announcement for a new fragrance without a name! Yes, you may have noticed a certain minimalist trend regarding perfume names lately which make these dwindle in size seriously offering sometimes just two letters, "XX" or "XY" or even a single letter, "L", but an unnamed perfume, without even a number, is a first.

But not for long. Bourbon French Parfums the old perfumery from New Orleans established in the 19th century is counting on you to provide them with a brand new original name for their new perfume. They are very old, 160 year old, and they need your help. The name, we suppose, has somehow to fit the spirit of the notes. Here's their letter to you,

Hello all you Perfumaniacs!

We are introducing a new fragrance this fall.  It's a beautiful blend of white tea with hints of lily of the valley, tuberose and a light touch of musk.......

Oudh in Arab Culture, Video Interview with Sean John {The 5th Sense in the News}

Oudh.jpg

• You can read an article about Oudh, Aloeswood, or Agarwood and its all-encompassing importance in Arabian society in the Gulf Weekly,

The first thing your sense of smell picks up in an Arab house is the heady aroma of Oudh wafting in the air.

Oudh is considered as a supreme fragrance in the Gulf countries.
In Bahrain, Oudh is burned as a mark of respect and hospitality and is a traditional gesture of welcoming and honouring guests. In fact, Oudh is considered an important feature at most social occasions......

Geisha Noire Eau de Parfum by Aroma M {Fragrance News} {New Perfume}

Geisha Noire Aroma M.jpg

For the holiday season Aroma M is introducing this September 2007 a new alcohol-based version of its oil-based perfume created in 2000, Geisha Noire (Black Geisha), in response to popular demand. The formula remains unchanged but the translation of the original fragrance into an edp makes the new scent more diffusive as it is the very function of an eau de parfum to create a sillage or wake of perfume,

From the press release:

"The difference?  While this formulation still recalls a Far Eastern bazaar, and retains all of its musky, deeply sensual amber and tropical, vanilla-esque tonka bean flavors in their original proportions, the added presence of alcohol serves to lighten it up and give it some breathing space.  In its newly diffused form, the fragrance is more noticeable to those in your direct vicinity...... More on Shalimar Black, the Christmas Limited Edition by Guerlain {Luxury Perfume} {Scented Quote of the Day}

Shalimar Black Parfum Noël Christmas.jpg

Perfume bottle collectors and Shalimar aficionados can rejoice. As briefly reported previously, Guerlain is issuing for the holiday season a special limited edition of the great classic oriental perfume Shalimar called the "Shalimar édition limitée Noël". The striking transformation is a first and found at the diametrically opposite end of the color spectrum of a previous special edition in transparent Baccarat crystal.

The scent, in both Eau de Parfum and Parfum concentrations, is dressed for the occasion in a sumptuous new black outfit that is like an echo of the Black Orloff diamond or again perhaps, the reflection of the moon on peacocks that strut about the gardens of Shalimar at night, according to the press release. Guerlain explain that they want to explore the mysterious side of Shalimar with this new color.......

Scented Quote of the Day, from Arthur Minton:

duke_women_1946.jpg
Duke women 1946

Minton writes bout Gallicized perfume names in America as of 1946 (a method applied sometimes quite erratically if you read the rest of Minton's article, which is at times hilarious, especially when he gives long lists of perfume names with funny mistakes in them.) Some of my favorites are: Charme d'France, La Joye, Le Secrét Discret, Mon Spi, De Sir De Toi, Ne Moub Liez Pas, Puré Paris, Mon Ajour, Ro Mantique, La Plus Des Fleurs, Violette Verdue, Rafraichu....I am laughing so much it hurts!!):......

Interviews with Aerin Lauder & Frida Giannini {The 5th Sense in the News]

Aerin Lauder.JPG

Aerin Lauder, senior vice-president and creative director of Estée Lauder, is interviewed on the occasion of the launch of Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia,

"It was John Demsey, who at one time ran M.A.C. in Canada and is now group president at Lauder, who suggested the 37-year-old take a more public role. "I was in a meeting with John talking about retail and business trends, and how we should create something special for customers like Holt Renfrew. He said, `The answer is in the room.'"

Coincidentally, Lauder says, while working on other fragrances she had perfumers developing a white floral to satisfy her personal taste. "They were secretly passing me things on the side to try. So when John said that, it all came together."....

Tom Ford Black Orchid Voile de Fleur {Perfume Short (Review)} {New Perfume}

Voile de Fleur.jpg

Black Orchid Voile de Fleur is one of the latest Tom Ford additions to his house catalog of perfumes. As its name indicates, it is a twist on his previous major feminine launch, Black Orchid. It was originally conceived as the lighter eau de toilette version of the dark heavy floral that is Black Orchid, which is such until its dry-down, which toys with the idea that the best endings should be light-hearted. Voile de Fleur was created by perfumers David Apel and Pierre Negrin.....
