How To Buy Patents Of Discontinued Fragrances {Ask Marie-Helene}

Correspondence_Letters.jpg

Hi,

I was surprised and happy to discover your website, being a lover of the fragrances I've loved/love. I've wondered about some of the fragrances that have been discontinued, and you may have info on your site about this, but I haven't had time yet to read everything! I'm just wondering about how easy/difficult, and how costly, it is , for one to buy recipe/patent for discontinued fragrances. Might be a better option for me to buy STOCK in companies that WILL produce some of the older good ones.

Thank you,

Melissa B. ......

Smells Like Rain In The Spring In Belgium...... {Ask Marie-Helene}

Spring Rain.jpg
Hi,

I came across your website a few days back and was really impressed. There is an ocean of happening things to read on your website!!! I am looking for a particular perfume for a friend back in Belgium. The trouble is he only gave me the description of the fragrance and he doesn't remember the name of the perfume either. Here is what he says....
  1. Smells like rain during spring in Belgium
  2. Contains clay
  3. Pretty expensive

Is there someone who can help me ??? I'm now in India and am leaving for Belgium in a week. Would be fantastic if I could get it for him.

Cheers,

Joseph H.

Interview of Lyn Harris of Miller Harris on Beauty Interviews {Fragrant Reading}

Miller Harris Stor.jpg

Beauty Interviews has a piece with Lyn Harris, the founder and perfumer of Miller Harris.

How do you source the ingredients for Miller Harris perfumes?
I only use the finest quality raw ingredients. I take pride in carefully selecting my materials from different regions and with my chemicals, again, I have my favourites, which I obtain through certain suppliers whom I favour. As I defined and refined my style, I have found that I am far more selective of the chemicals I work with. I have now got to a stage in my creativity where I am happy to limit myself to around 300 out of thousands and thousands available in perfumery. This is important in defining my style as a perfumer. I am confident about limiting my vocabulary in terms of these materials. However, the opposite is true of natural ingredients. I try and discover new naturals – I don’t like to be limited in that respect.

The fragrances are so good a French perfumer could not believe his nose when he caught the aroma of Scent 2 and was told it was coming from a shampoo and not from a fragrance.....

Vétiver Pour Elle by Guerlain {Fragrance News}

vetiver-pour-elle.jpg

Initially launched in 2004 as a limited edition, Vétiver Pour Elle will be included this fall in the Guerlain collection called Les Parisiennes.

How could it be otherwise? Jean-Paul Guerlain's female friends after having adopted his original Vétiver, which he composed in 1959 when he was just 18, were begging him to offer a feminine twist on the classic fragrance. Even if adopted by generations of women who had not waited for anyone's permission to make Vétiver theirs, curiosity being part of human nature and dissatisfaction the motor of progress or history at least, a Vétiver For Her was felt to be long overdue.....

Eau Sauvage & Eau Sauvage Fraîcheur Cuir by Christian Dior {Perfume Short (Reviews)} {New Perfume} {Men's Cologne}

Eau Sauvage Fraîcheur Cuir Dior.jpg
In 1966, Christian Dior introduced a new men's fragrance that had failed consumers' tests, deciding to follow their instincts instead. Eau Sauvage (Wild Water), composed by Edmond Roudnitska, can be seen retrospectively as deserving of its name due to this initial movement of irreverence and freedom from marketing rules of caution. It owes it more particularly and evidently to its fresh aromatic notes; the perfume evokes nature and an air as bracing as if you were inhaling these notes standing by a torrent.

The eau de toilette became a classic, adopted by both men and women, reaching across gender thanks to its fresh eau departure and its floral heart, enriched by a new jasmine-scented raw material called Hedione. The floral accents were felt to be a little provocative from the mainstream masculine standpoint at the time.

Another element which might have contributed to its popularity among women we think is that despite its dynamic sport-scent-like opening suggesting the movement of a slap of aftershave on the face (rather than its smell proper), the scent retained a reference to a classic chypre, notably perceptible with the assertive oakmoss peaking through from the base and offering its contrast with the luminous top notes......

Christian Dior.jpg
Christian Dior - Eau Sauvage corresponds better to this picture than the new one would, due to its more retro feel.

Scent Marketing is on the Upsurge {The 5th Sense in the News}

Wedding Cake.jpg

This Sunday over brunch, get of whiff of this, i.e., look for a slice of gourmand advertising in the Los Angeles Times that will bear the scent of frosted cake. This ad is to encourage interest in the new movie "Mr Margorium's Wonder Emporium" with Natalie Portman and Dustin Hoffman. And the LAT people are not the only ones to think forward. More experiments are conducted in the printed media nowadays to capture advertisers' and readers' interests, sometimes with a backlash effect as in the case of the cookie-scented bus shelters in San Francisco,......
