Opi is introducing a new color in October of 2007 called Pink of Hearts in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is a porcelain-like milky pink pastel and the caps are cutely decorated with pink ribbons to express the symbolism of the month. Isn't it appropriate that the color would evoke milk too? It makes us think of strawberry milk.....

We reported last year about some of the amazingly scented and textured Pacifica Body Butters. Since then, the brand issued a line of personal fragrances that echo the scents of their candles and butters. A visit to the Anthropologie boutique made us discover these and then other new releases beckoned........

A professionally trained soothing voice: "It's OK not to have a signature scent." You would not be a lesser woman or man for that (there is probably more pressure on women to conform to this ideal). If you still need some moral encouragement in this area of your life, Hannah Betts is here to enable you and support you with some well-chosen precedents and examples,.......

Warning, this article contains graphic descriptions of bad odors. The New York Post reports on a series of malodors in The Bronx, The Bronx may not be burning, but it sure smells funny. The city has unleashed a sniffing SWAT team to nose around the borough to determine the sources of strange odors reported by nauseated neighbors in the Hunts Point area.

Isabel Derroisné has launched a new perfume called Ilaya. It is an incense-based perfume inspired by a dual accord of "sensual ancestral notes" such as myrrh, frankincense, benzoin and "contemporary notes" such as a moka coffee accord. The scent is said to offer a velvety oriental texture......

Perfumers sometimes set aside their flacons and notebooks full of formulas and quickly jotted-down notes and instead pick up a more literary or theoretical pen deciding to write a book. Writings by seasoned perfumers are amongst some of the most interesting texts to read on perfume. Edmond Roudnitska, Jean Kerléo, Maurice Maurin, and Jean-Claude Ellena are some of the ones in the contemporary period that have felt the need to express themselves on paper as well as in perfumes.......

Parfums Thierry Mugler these days seem to have become specialized in extra creative and luxurious editions of rare perfumes. After the coffret inspired by the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, they are issuing for the holidays a sumptuously aged version of Angel thanks to techniques used by Cognac makers. If this sounds more like an experiment than a trademarked technique in perfumery, it seems to have come out beautifully.
From mid-October 2007, this very special limited edition of Angel will be made available in select retail points; it is called La Part des Anges.......

Dear Andy Tauer, We learned about the passing away of your mother and wanted to express our sincerest condolences to you and your family. There is a great interview of Hubert de Givenchy in L'Express. Incidentally, we were looking for a testimonial from a member of the signature-perfume school the other day when commenting on the article addressing the issue of the acceptability of a fragrance wardrobe; the famous French couturier is one of them, "Mes parfums ont été le prolongement de ma couture, de l'élégance que je voulais donner à mes vêtements. Le parfum est l'un des éléments d'un style. J'ai toujours dit à mes clientes «Vous avez un style, de la personnalité, accentuez-les. Et, si vous vivez avec un parfum, conservez-le, car il est une part de vous-même»" "My perfumes have been the extension of my couture, of the elegance that I wanted to impart to my clothes. Perfume is one of the elements of a style. I've always told my female customers "You have a style, personality, emphasize them. And if you happen to be living with a perfume, keep it, for it is a part of yourself."
Givenchy also lays to rest the myth surrounding the L'interdit perfume and explains its name.......

Further interesting details about the making of Thierry Mugler La Part des Anges are now available thanks to a new report. As it turns out, the whole adventure was indeed an experiment at first that took up to five trials before finding the right balance of notes, in particular as pertaining to the type of wood used to make the barrels in which Angel was put to age. The 23-week long process has now been trademarked......

Sarrasins Platine Limited Edition Sarrasins (Saracens) by Serge Lutens starts with the suggestion of the clashing of a warriors’ Dantean battle between jasmine and leather before slipping into the quiet night of a banquet feast or more strangely yet even more spontaneously evoked, a nocturnal fun fair encountered by chance on a traveler’s road, which is redolent with the soft effluvia of rose and almond loukhoums and secretive spices. As the night makes its progression and wanes into dawn, sunnier notes appear that evoke the outcome of a process of civilization. To war succeeds peace and in this stage there is a weaving of civilizational influences as complex as the motifs treaded upon on Oriental carpets. The result is brighter. From the initial outburst of violence emerges the softening and hospitable influence of orange blossom, the “ eau de naffe” brought by the Arabs to Europe. This orange blossom water gives in its turn a novel perfume accord, the light chypre or cologne invented on European soil. In this manner and quite unexpectedly, a subtle reminiscence of Diorella by Dior peaks through the waning stages of the perfume.......... An example of Greco-Iranian Scythian art

Symrise is organizing an exhibition dedicated to the better understanding of contemporary fragrance culture in Russia called The Future of Fragrance in Russia or alternatively, A Taste of Russia. According to Perfumer & Flavorist Now, For women, floral-fruity scents are traditionally popular, while chypre and floriental fragrances are just emerging. Consumers tend to prefer citrus notes for the freshness they impart, while fruity notes are a “must.” Conversely, women tend to dislike rich, opulent, classical and excessively heavy scents.......
