Parfums d'Orsay was first founded during the Romantic period as Maison Parfums d'Orsay by Count d'Orsay, reportedly in 1830, this date according to the brand but other dates are also put forth. 1908 is the more recent date at which the brand was brought back to life by German and Dutch investors with the approval of the d'Orsay family. The first date nevertheless alludes to a period in which the famous French dandy and man of many talents Comte Gabriel Alfred Guillaume d'Orsay (1801-1852) was creating perfumes in Great Britain where he had taken up residence.......

Photo by Shaun Curry/AFP The British have a reputation of eccentricity to defend and they just did that very well. What better way, one must acknowledge even genius way, of guarding a pair of bejeweled haute couture shoes but to hire a flesh-and-blood cobra to do the job?......

Perfumer Ayala Moriel of Ayala Moriel Parfums is preparing to launch her new creation called Immortelle L'Amour (Everlasting, Love) based on immortelle or Everlasting flower in November of 2007. Immortelle has a wonderful complex and original aroma in and of itself of caramel, roasted coffee, honey, maple syrup, and more and so this should be one to look forward to. It is also a warm scent that marries well with autumn as an antidote to the cold weather. Not content with issuing only a perfume for the skin, the perfumer will also propose an Immortelle L'Amour tea blend to perfume your palate.
In Ayala Moriel's own words:......

As previously announced, Hugo Boss is launching a duo of perfumes called XY and XX. The advertising campaign is in full gear and you are now invited to watch the short movie accompanying the perfumes on YouTube (not the commercial with Jonathan Rhys Meyer). Honestly, we initially thought it was a spoof, but the PR representative confirmed to us that it was part of their campaign. It is a parody of the early nature shows, say in the style of the Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom series......

Caron perfumes, especially in the pure parfum concentrations are deep compositions, complex, and from this very complexity derives an intriguing duality that one can find in several of them. Oftentimes they seem to oscillate between an oriental nature and a chypre nature, a deeper more introspective self and a brighter more self-conscious one. Yes, we thereby decree that chypre perfumes are self-conscious entities, aware of their effect onto others, whereas orientals just want to be left alone with themselves and exceptionally a few chosen loved ones. The new Montaigne eau de parfum seems to have decided to lean more in the direction of its chypre facet, while retaining its oriental nature. This would be in our eye, a typical and logical Caron move, not surprising at all as it is a possibility contained in their structures. It is, in other words, a choice presented between more intimacy and more social ostentatiousness, between more skin and more sillage. The press release actually describes the edp as a floriental, a word that is a contraction of "floral" and "oriental"........ One of the two latest perfume launches by Comptoir Sud Pacifique, Eau de Naphé, resurrects an interesting exotic and slightly mysterious ancient perfume expression which in the 19th and 20th centuries means "orange blossom water". You will find the expression relatively more frequently as "eau de naffe"(e.g. Rabelais) and it actually, besides its more particular meaning, also has a more general one, that of an aromatized, perfumed water (18th c.).......
