Jil Sander is going to launch an amped-up version of Style this fall called Stylessence. It was composed by the same perfumer, Bernard Ellena of Symrise. The perfume is meant to bring out the more seductive and sensual side of the Jil Sander woman and judging by the ad and packaging is meant to be more of an evening scent.......

Forbes has featured a selection of the 10 most expensive desserts in the world. The winner is The Fortress Aquamarine which combines love of food and jewelry; its price at $14 500 is mostly justified by the aquamarine stone that decorates the dessert-sculpture. You also have to fly to Sri Lanka to have a taste of.....luxury? But the best desserts for a perfumista might be these two......

Open your eyes! Photographer Terry Richardson is becoming fashionable among celebrities wanting to promote their perfumes from the porno-chic angle. He is well-known for his graphic aesthetics and these days, it seems that one needs all the attention one can create to pull a perfume out of the crowd, nay sea, of new releases. After Tom Ford decided in a dramatic reversal of aesthetic choices to play the Terry Richardson card rather than the Marilyn Minter one, the Beckhams have also enlisted Richardson's camera to promote the Intimately Beckham Night duo......

After having mentioned yesterday the iconic Revlon Charlie perfume ads of the 1970s as presenting the counter-archetype of the woman seen as object as proposed in several recent perfume adverts, we decided to revisit some of these 1970s and 80s ads to reconnect for a time with Charlie's bouncy step.
Many of us remember energetic Charlie walking with a conquering spring in her step. She wore pants and to show off that she really knew how to wear them, her stride was amplified, made almost exaggerated at times, like the stylized idea of independence and confidence. Man, she could walk some giant steps on behalf of all women. Here are some images to remember Charlie who could even reveal herself to be on occasion (unfortunately) paternalistic, if provoked by the behind of a man; sexual harassment you said? Connais pas. What a change of scenes in the current adverts we talked about yesterday which contain allusions to a rather crude sexual assault, a woman with half a face who is really the dream of an inflatable sex doll, and submissive femininity in general. Blame it on cultural eclectism and trends rather than on an overall ideology but still.....

The new Vivara by Emilio Pucci created by perfumer François Demachy is a perfume that manages to surprise you, enchant you, and mesmerize you all along the way. It actually blew my mind. At first you think that it is a very interesting fragrance, then it becomes frankly beautiful, then you think no, it is more than interesting, it is original and a bit strange, yet endlessly beautiful. You then wonder: how did they manage to create a perfume that is both so obviously quirky yet classically and superlatively enchanting? Vivara will keep you guessing for ever. It is a breathtaking beauty that is extremely sophisticated in its structure and will make your more traditional perfumes look like they were made in the kitchen sink.
Remember the Edmond Roudnitska dictum that says never to compare two perfumes, it is unfair? In this case one would be tempted to add, unlike in fairy tales, hide the others, here comes a woman of unparalleled beauty and charm and it would be just nonsensical to compare other more ordinary beauties to her.......
