Tsi-La Organics is a new brand of perfumes that will appeal to the green-minded perfume consumer and provide the opportunity of an interesting foray into natural perfumery for more eclectic perfumistas. The packaging is lovely and the pleasure of varying perfumes has been kept in mind as you can purchase the scents in at least one set of four. The brand stresses that they do not use any synthetic ingredients, just pure essence oils. Their two different sets of fragrances modulate traditional perfume carriers for people who prefer oil versus those who favor alcohol. In this manner they offer a series of four perfume oils and one of six "natural eau de parfum", which are alcohol-based. Part of the fragrances overlap the two collections, with Fleur Sauvage, Kesu, Ilang Ilang, and Kizes found in the coconut oil-based scents and Fiori d'Arancio, Ilang Ilang, Saqui, Kesu, Fleur Sauvage, and Kizes found in the alcohol-based ones. Both series are in Eau de Parfum concentration........

Osmanthus Interdite (lit. Forbidden Osmanthus) by Parfum d'Empire makes a well-known cultural reference to the prevalence and appreciation of the scent of osmanthus flower (Gui Hua) in Chinese culture notably through tea consumption, as well as to the seat of power of the Chinese emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Forbidden City. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato the founder and nose behind the perfumes of Parfum d'Empire uses the world history of empires to illustrate the point that raw materials used in perfumery were the objects of transactions and exchanges over the continents put in communication by deeds of war and conquest. The osmanthus flower in this case however is native to China.......

As advertised, each bottle of Dior Midnight Poison is said to be unique, reflecting the demanding haute-couture spirit that presided over its creation. Here is a picture of the slightly more tantalizing bottle for the extrait or pure parfum. I cursorily reviewed Midnight Poison mostly under the heading of it being a smell-alike. I should probably just smell it on its own to be both fair and realistic given the context of hyper-production of scents these days. This year is significantly more frenzied than last year. Could this get even more feverish next year? I'm afraid to ask lest the deities have major plans for the exponential development of the perfume industry in the years to come.
I am somehow reminded of the episode of I Love Lucy at the chocolate factory where she has to frantically hurry more and more to try to wrap, then eat, then stuff her clothes with all the chocolates passing in front of her on the conveyor belt. Just put perfume bottles instead and do a remake of that scene. Enlightenment guaranteed! Perfumes are becoming more and more of a zapping activity.
Why do we zap? That is the question. Because the program is shallow and bad? Because you are afraid you are going to miss a good program? Greed? Because it gives a false sense of freedom and choice? Because you are bored and hopeful? I'm sure I'll have occasion to return to the topic. Meanwhile......

Liv Tyler is the face for the Very Irresistible fragrance which even includes a dedicated Liv Tyler Rose described as green and fruity. For this fall Givenchy is proposing a twist on the original perfume called Very Irresistible Givenchy Sensual Velvet. It is a limited edition and it is all about roses, roses, roses. Rose has always been big in perfumery, but it is truly ubiquitous these days, offered with all sorts of refinements and especially under the angles of a new rose, a personal rose, a rare rose, and this time, an emotional rose, well several of them.......

A report on Gucci's fashion show in Milan and guess what, their new fragrance Gucci by Gucci, in a noted move, was put first before the audience, "Coco Chanel was among the first fashion designers to see the marketing potential in branded perfume. The income from hits such as Chanel No 5 bankrolled her couture operations. Last night, Gucci literally put fragrance ahead of fashion when it screened the new television advertisement for its latest scent before its catwalk show."

Dear Readers, It has been brought to my attention that the Index of New Perfumes 2006 & Index of New Perfumes 2007 were experiencing technical difficulties. It has now been fixed and we hope that you will find them useful to browse. The perfumes are listed there in alphabetical order either by perfume name of perfume brand. Right now in the box above that says "New Perfumes" you will find them alternatively listed in relative chronological order.

The famous Italian hatter Borsalino, established 1857, has launched a new men's cologne called Borsalino Panama. The perfumer who created the cologne is Enrico Scartezzini of M & M Fragrances, Milano. Women's Wear Daily had a chat with perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena on the occasion of a talk he gave on Wednesday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Article is accessible to subscribers only so here are two excerpts, "For instance, the olfactory notes of a fragrance are often compared with the musical notes of a song. However, while music is "successive" in structure, with one note audible after another, Ellena asserted that this structure is nonexistent in perfume — the notes of a scent are perceptible as soon as one opens the bottle, he said. "Olfactory expression is total," Ellena said in French through a translator....."

Gap is very much interested in perfumes this fall and is making a sort of comeback and more in that area. After having launched two recent collections of perfumes that contained multiple entries, they are doing it again with two more collections: Individuals and G7 for Men, the latter being a perfume and grooming line for men. The inspiration this time derives less from the materials used themselves than from moral types......

Monotheme fine fragrances Venezia carries a large number of fragrances at reasonable prices. Amongst others, they offer a line of perfumes in their Classic Fragrance collection which are based for their main inspiration on a single note to start with although the compositions are slightly more complex. The perfumes were created to be especially long-lasting. Their classic touch is underlined by the packaging which evokes an old-fashioned sense of apothecary charm........

According to Cosmetics Design, the Sweden-based brand Oriflame launched a new perfume called Amethyst Fatale in its Gem Collection (it sounds like a twin concept of the one developed by Olivier Durbano who also has a fragrance called Amethyst; Lalique also is launching a scent called Amethyst this fall... oh my!)). Purple and fuschia colors are back in vogue this fall in fashion, makeup, and perfumes and the new Amethyst seems to fit nicely in this trend. A second trend in which it fits is that it is an iris fragrance inspired by the purple gem. Oriflame says that they want to promote a perfumery for connoisseurs rather than for fans (it's a dig at celebrity fragrances).....
