Tom Ford will launch a set of four perfumes in September 2009 linked by a musk theme as well as a white atmosphere as a color-themed continuation of White Patchouli and playing on the strong contrasted opposition of black, white and transparency found in his offerings. The fragrances billed as unisex with a feminine bent in the current societal context -- it's all fashion, says Ford -- are called Jasmine Musk, Urban Musk, Musk Pure and White Suede and are part of the Private Blend collection, the more upscale arm of the brand. It's also an opportunity for Ford to revisit the Seventies, his era of predilection which he often mentions when talking about his creative perfume projects from Gucci pour Homme to M7. At the same time, it's all very current,
"I was in the mood for something lighter and a little fresher. In the world today, we're all in the mood for something simple, fresh, light and a little less heavy. At least that's what I'm in the mood for,"...
The ad for the perfumes is also noticeably more sedate than some of the images he offered previously, like one of the ads for Tom Ford for Men in which the bottle was placed modestly smack in front of the model's genitalia lest we might find it too offensive to plunge our eyes too deeply into that area. It didn't help much as people thought the pornographic connotation was still unmistakable.
Jasmine Musk features notes of ylang-ylang, jasmine, patchouli, orris, vanilla, sandalwood, vetiver, cistus and amber, as well as two musks.
Urban Musk includes ambrette seed absolute extra, white pepper CO2, notes of cumin, white honey, jasmine sambac, black plum, Tonkin musk headspace and benzoin Laos orpur.
Musk Pure develops notes of bergamot, pepper, ylang-ylang orpur, jasmine, lily of the valley, orris butter, orris absolute, jasmine sambac, tonka, benzoin tears and Laotian beeswax.
White Suede rests on notes of Bulgarian rose, saffron, thyme, mate tea, olibanum, lily of the valley, amber, suede and sandalwood.
A 50 ml spray bottle of Eau de Parfum is priced at $180. International rollout will take place in November 2009.
Also in September 2009, expect to see Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford, a perfume for men.
