Fragrances Blanc and Bleu by Paul & Joe design label which were launched in 2003 in cute retro-boudoir styled bottles similar to the packaging used for the foundations and nail polishes of the brand have now doned on new garbs. The shapes remain the same, but the once transparent glass is now opaque and each bottle reflects the name of the perfume...

Right before summer traveling starts, London-based Floris perfumery est. 1730 have released a new travel collection of four of their masculine fragrances or eaux de toilette in this case: they are No.89 (citrus-woody) named after the number of the ancient shop standing at 89, Jermyn Street since the beginnings,..

A measure of a fragrance's popularity is to observe the number of
flankers and limited-editions that are spun around the original jus.
Judging by the prolific output at Jean Paul Gaultier which benefits not
only the brand's classics like Le Male or Classique but the latest
baby, Ma Dame, things are going well for Jean Paul Gaultier. On the
other hand, it could be a chicken-and-egg dynamic where the
well-mastered art of flankerizing contributes to the never lessening
interest in a fragrance...

Marc Jacobs will introduce a new visual packaging interpretation of Daisy called Daisy Garland in February 2010. The color sky blue was elected " to encourage wearers to daydream about bright days and happy blue skies," while the perfume itself remains unchanged. The name of the special limited-edition suggests a festive, optimistic mood and is further illustrated by a real garland of daisies in shades of blue which comes as a GWP and can be used as a home fragrance device once sprayed upon. Nasomatto the Italian perfume brand that claims to be the work of a "crazy nose" might finally convince the last of the remaining skeptics that this is not just marketing. Black Afgano, an ink-colored hashish-based fragrance reportedly painstakingly sourced from behind the lines of fire in Afghanistan is now available in an oversized flacon of extrait that seems to be a candidate for the Guinness Book of World Records while appearing to be seen through the eyes of Alice in Wonderland. It is bigger than the 1 L Fontaine Impériale by Guerlain. Black Afgano is now bottled in a 2 Liter giant incarnation of its own self, with the same burnt oak wood cap, and its new name is Black Afgano Extrait de Parfum 2000 ml...

Designers Olivier Kuntzel and Florence Deygas have been called upon by Azzaro artistic director Vanessa Seward to decorate the flacon of Azzaro Couture perfume. After they did a duo of candles for Diptyque based on the story of Beauty and the Beast, they now offer another pair, "La poupée et son ours" or The Doll and her Bear. A bottle of perfume is priced at 230€, 192.31€ duty-free. Exclusively available at Colette and in the Azzaro boutiques.
Lolita Lempicka have released their 6th limited-edition of their annual Eau de Minuit (Midnight Eau). The 2009 version is decorated with an ajouré red metallic case and adorned further with trimmings. The jus is said to be ever more sensual, carnal and is billed as an oriental gourmand enriched with notes that "... are even more noble, precious and new: myrrh, jasmine, iris concrete, benzoin and vanilla infusion,"....

Kenzo Parfums is releasing this month a new variation on Kenzo Power (2008) called Kenzo Power Cologne. Here the term "cologne" is used in the traditional sense of an hesperidic eau as the new flanker attempts to derive inspiration from the 18th century genre by relying on a few key notes....

Comptoir Sud Pacifique have issued three of their perfumes in higher concentrations or Eaux de Parfum this fall: Vanille Extrême, Aqua Motu and Aloha Tiare. The signature aluminium bottles have also been replaced by glass flacons to underline the change. Vanille Extrême is said to be a rich harmony of gourmand notes with vanilla underlined by a hint of caramel and a cocktail of white musks...

Sisley launched a limited-edition bottle of their classic Eau du Soir (1990) for the Holidays 09. It is now all decked in vivid turquoise and coral with the cap imitating a sculptured branch of red coral. The flacon looks even better in person plus one can appreciate the fact that the bottle now being light-proof can be left on a dresser without having to worry about perfume spoilage. Eau du Soir is a classic chypre fragrance. I realized after smelling it from the cap recently that it smells especially good when fresh, i.e., with the citrus notes nice and sparkly. It might stand a chance after all compared to the newer Soir de Lune (2006) which I felt had upped the sophistication factor compared to its predecessor (and my vintage-y incarnation of it with the citrus notes suffering a bit from exhaustion.)
If you follow perfume news in this space you know that L'Occitane just released two new fragrances inspired by the Mediterranean region called Labdanum de Séville and Mimosa de l'Estérel. Currently and for just two weeks a limited-edition promotional travel suitcase containing 3 X 7,5 ml bottles is available with the two new scents plus Jasmin d'Egypte, an award-winning perfume. It's a great way to help you make up your mind and see to which perfume you will warm up most before committing to a bigger bottle. It is also worthy news for perfume miniature collectors. The offer is limited to France. The Valisette Voyage en Méditerrannée is priced at 21 €
Lola by Marc Jacobs is soon going to be available in a new incarnation, a flashy cocktail ring topped with the same enormous soft plastic flower as found on the cap of the bottle. The flower part is 1.5" in diameter and 1" tall. Ring size is 7. This is a limited-edition priced at $42 and currently only available to Sephora Beauty Insiders. Notes: Pink Peppercorn, Pear, Grapefruit, Rose, Peony, Geranium, Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Musk.
The flacon of Opium by Yves Saint Laurent is instantly recognizable in its exceptional, both literalist and glorified borrowing of the shape of a Japanese Inro case. Over the years it has undergone a number of redesigns for limited-editions like a black lacquer version here or a simplified graffiti look here. In the fall of 2009, the eau de parfum is bottled in a 90 ml semi-transparent, semi-opaque all-glass flacon that is very eye-catching. Not only that, but when you hold up the bottle to the light to admire it in detail, you have to gasp a little more when you see that the inside of the flacon contains a tautly twisted black rope in its center. Then it becomes hard to take your eyes away from the unexpected meeting of gold liquid, coiled black silk or silk-look alike and frosted glass in cinnabar red. It looks much better in person than in the picture. It is a beauty and one of the most luxurious variations to date.
