The Société Française des Parfumeurs is organizing their annual competition, which rewards each year an emerging talent. This year the inspiration for the creation of an original perfume should be guided by a quote from Le Mas Théotime (1945) by Henri Bosco, « You push your hand in among the damp leaves, which when shaken shed hundreds of tiny clear droplets of water onto your fingers whilst the little plant’ perfume exhales and intermingles near the ground with the smell of the plants below and the stronger emanations of the earth”.
Comme chaque année, la Société Française des Parfumeurs organise un concours destiné au repérage d'un nouveau jeune talent en parfumerie créative. En 2008 l'inspiration pour la création d'une fragrance originale devra être puisée dans cette citation extraite de l'oeuvre de Henri Bosco, Le Mas Théotime (1945), « On enfonce la main dans les feuilles humides, et, quand on les secoue, il vous pleut sur les doigts des centaines de claires goutelettes d’eau, tandis que le parfum de la petite plante se dégage et se mêle, au ras du sol, à l’odeur des herbes plus basses et aux puissantes émanations de la terre ».....

OMG!! I can't close my jaw I am so stupefied by the kitschy character of the advert for the new Paris Hilton Can Can! Actually I finally managed to, but I am still experiencing a cramp of disbelief in my jaw muscles. This is her 4th women's fragrance (she also released at least one men's fragrance) and this time the aesthetics for the promotion images seem to be a cross between the universes of a beauty contest show for little girls + Valentine Day Chocolate box + Moulin Rouge as seen through a touristy snow ball + a Barbie doll package......

Rossy de Palma at the launch party for Eau de Protection Rossy de Palma is this wonderful Spanish character actress - one of Almodovar's fetish actresses - with the most atypical of physiques, one that seems to combine references to both El Greco and Pablo Picasso's works. Is it a coincidence or the sum of ancestral genius and powers of observation of two great Spanish painters that have extracted certain specific traits found in their compatriots? Rossy de Palma's face offers the same elongated and sharp-as-a-knife-blade likeness to an El Greco figure as well as the boldness and asymmetry of a woman's face quietly rendered by Picasso (cf.  The 7th perfume in the exclusive boutique collection Hermessences by Hermès is a lavender and licorice fragrance called Un Brin de Réglisse (lit. a strand of licorice or fig. a tad of licorice). It was composed by Hermès in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena and is said to be based on an accord combining a dry, re-worked lavender and a dash of licorice........

Kyphi Oil by Alchemy Works is sold as a magical oil, which is based on the 2200 year old recipe of Kyphi found on the walls of the temple of Horus at Edfu. Kyphi is one of the most ancient perfume recipes known to exist and there are many variations of it but they always consist of an incense compound macerated together with honey, wine, and raisins. This incense perfume was endowed with both spiritual and medicinal properties and burned in the evening by the Ancient Egyptians who customarily burned different kinds of incenses to mark the different times of the day. Edfu Kyphi more particularly symbolizes the transition from day to night. The reason why we suddenly felt the need to seek out some kyphi more recently is because when we received our sample of Hors Là Monde Shiloh earlier this summer and started feeling the charm of a perfume that has an ancient mystical and haunting quality about it, we wondered if it might not have been inspired by something very ancient like kyphi? When we put the question to Symine Salimpour, she would or could not say anything, so we decided to hunt down a flacon of kyphi.......
