130 Street Photographies after the Paris Attacks - 130 photographies de rue, après les attentats de Paris - In Memoriam

On January 10, 2016 the day of national homage dedicated to the victims of the Paris Attacks of 2015 waned with a large, popular assembly on Place de la République. People were invited, among other things, to watch diaporamas projected onto large, open-air screens.

This is the part which we thought was the most touching: seeing adults and children alike be caught off-guard with an air of innocence on their faces as they looked at images of a life they love, international testimonials of solidarity, and the visual story of Parisians' and the French's reactions to the terrible events of November 13...

Despite the inherent sadness which is more often than not bottled up yet ready to spill over like here, there was an air of wonderment which told you that not all innocence and capacity for wonder was lost after the attacks.

There were many different reactions to the giant slideshows which were accompanied by a litte music in the style of the one used in the movie Amélie Poulain; we really wanted to capture that sense of childlike innocence which emanated from the crowd. This is the clearest photography about that state of mind.

On a translation note, while it would be better to translate "Clear Eyes. Full Hearts." by "Oeil d'aigle. Coeur d'airain", we feel we can take some poetic licence to convey the sense that it's a battle, yes, but there is no clear terrain for engagement and therefore civilians are mostly left to take it in and feel - but also reconnect with a spirit of resistance not seen since WWII.

This photo is part of a series capturing the atmosphere of Paris after 11/13 in 130 pictures, one each day for each of the 130 Paris Attack victims.
