Commercial & Behind-the-Scenes for Armani Acqua di Gioia (2010) {Perfume Images & Ads}

Acqua-di-Gioia-jungle.jpg
The launch of the latest fragrance by Armani, Acqua di Gioia, is the occasion for the brand to display a sense of lush cinematography. While marine and beach scents are often marketed and perceived as seasonal fragrances, the ambition of the commercial film seems to be rather to convey a sense of timeless romanticism and pure land of eternal joy as if to invite you to go back in mind always to a simpler and more beautiful place thanks to a few drops of perfume. Water becomes a symbolic element not just of relaxation and pleasure but taps into a more profound association with the idea of purification and its being an elemental building block of life.

The film features model Emily DiDonato. The music is Arrival of the Birds by The Cinematic Orchestra. The commercial evokes feature movies such as The Piano by Jane Campion and Greystoke The Legend of Tarzan Lord of the Apes and of course the documentary film about pink flamingos from which the music is excerpted, Les Ailes Pourpres. You Tube viewers are star struck by the commercial...

First Look at the Outer Packaging for Jennifer Aniston EDP The Debut Fragrance {Perfume Images & Ads}

aniston-harrods-B.jpg©Mike Marsland

We reported earlier on today that a new fragrance name had been proposed by Harrods for the new Jennifer Aniston perfume on the occasion of its worldwide premiere in London. Now entitled The Debut Fragrance on their merchant website, we wondered if we would find it printed on the outer box for the bottle of scent or just on a removable sticker given the rather dramatic upheavals which took place around the naming of the fragrance? Dramatic because Aniston herself made it seem like one of the earlier names for the eau de parfum, Lolavie, was so pregnant with meaning it was virtually impossible to explain what it meant exactly.

Well, we were able to check the concrete object itself, namely the outer packaging, after receiving the following first two pictures of the event at Harrods. Pauline contributed the photos from London...

Videos of Belle d'Opium Launch Party: Forbidden City + Psychedelic 70s {Perfume Images & Ads}

belle-dopium-launch.jpg
The mood at the YSL Belle d'Opium launch party drew on several influences. The main stage was set to feel like a dark Parisian boîte but there were clearly references to the red lacquers of the Forbidden City in Beijing in homage to the Opium Wars which inspired the name of the original scent and the red bottle design. One progressed from a red light zone to a purple ambiance pulsating like a psychedelic show from the 1970S....

Party Pictures from YSL Belle d'Opium Bash {Perfume Images & Ads}

Belle-Opium-Scene-4.jpg
More party pictures from the Belle d'Opium bash in NYC have come in. Above is a glimpse of the new advert featuring actress Mélanie Thierry whose styling echoes the one for the more  canonical Opium Eau de Parfum. The bottle designed by Fabien Baron is beautiful and turns a deep shade of purple for Belle d'Opium. The nargileh accord that perfumer Honorine Blanc mentions for the new jus sounds great (hence the swirls of smoke on the ad). We're not sure if it is voluntary but the suggestive pose seems to refer to the traditional practice of fumigating your yoni, no?...

Chloé Love, Chloé (2010): Launch Party Video: Welcome Back Charlie {New Fragrance} {Perfume Ads & Images}

Love-Chloe-Ad-B.jpg
Further details emerged after our announcement yesterday about a new feminine fragrance by Chloé called - now we can confirm it - Love, Chloé. It will be available from September 2010.

The launch party was held in a 1970s revivalist atmosphere in Paris and when you catch a glimpse or two of the commercial directed by Roman Coppola (the son of and brother of), it really feels like Raquel Zimmerman's springy step and way of wearing her trousers and hair were inspired by the iconic Charlie commercials of the precisely said decade...

Retro Commercials for Hai Karate Aftershave: "Be Careful How You Use It" {Perfume Ads & Images}

Hai Karate commercials from the 1960s-70s wanted to play upon the commonplace notion of the overwhelming seductive power of scent in a comical fashion. These ads are also called the Revenge of the Nerd and of The Guy Next Door (bed actually)...

Beyoncé Heat (2010) {Perfume Review} {Celebrity Fragrance}

beyonce-grammy-2010-B.jpg

O-letter-TSS-B.jpgOne question that people keep asking themselves when they think about buying a celebrity fragrance is how authentic is the affiliation of the celeb to the scent? Did the persons really put anything of themselves in it besides their names? Beyoncé preempted any doubts by saying,

"Everything, from the bottle design to the name and the ideas for the commercials -- that's me. When I commit to something, I do it 100 percent, and I've never had [creative control over a fragrance] until this project. I learned a lot of great things from the past -- but I always asked myself, 'If I could have my own scent, what would it be?' I wasn't worried about deadlines. It could have taken me three, four, however many years -- this was my first fragrance, and I wanted to make sure that it was something I would love forever." [WWD]

After discovering several celebrity fragrances that attempted to answer this nosy-parker question in a similar way and with their own means, I can say that I am pretty sure Heat reflects Beyoncé's preferences....

outspoken-ad-2.jpg

A-letter-tss-quaint-B.jpgAvon released the commercial for the new Outspoken by Fergie, "Say it like you mean it!" Fergie also appears in a behind-the-scenes shoot where by the way she appears much sweeter than in the commercial, did you notice? Perfumer Laurent Le Guernec of IFF makes an appearance to explain the ideas behind the fragrance which I reviewed here...

Pine-Sol is Given the Royal Perfume Treatment {Fragrance Images & Ads}

If fine perfumery is more and more open to welcoming detergent notes and in particular really soapy clean white musk notes in their perfumes, the fragrance toiletry branch of the industry is also blurring the limits with more and more fantasy names given their laundry detergent blends, sophisticated accords, and advertising campaigns that borrow from the codes of seduction usually reserved for fine perfumes...

Manly Old Spice Commercial: A Stick that Smells like Wild Flowers & Shame {Perfume Images & Ads}

Old Spice helps make fun of or solidify stereotypes about manhood in this commercial -- I bet some take it first degree. Flowers take a beating meanwhile.

This is so funny because in fact Old Spice started out as a women's perfume in 1936-1937 under the name Early American Old Spice for Women and contains floral notes such as rose, jasmine and heliotrope...

heavenly-flowers.jpg
V-Letter-TSS-B.jpgVictoria's Secret called upon no less than three Victoria's Angels to be on duty as the Three Graces to promote their latest fragrance, a solar peony perfume called Heavenly Flowers. In attendance were models Alessandra Ambrosio (chestnut-haired), Candice Swanepoel (blonde) and Miranda Kerr (brunette) who played sexy green-thumbed gardeners.
