 People Magazine got the scoop on the new advertising that accompanies the upcoming fragrance by Beyoncé, Pulse (see here & here.) The tag line is "The electric new fragrance by Beyoncé." The print ad campaign is signed by Lionel Gasperini, and the TV commercial is by Jake Nava, who did her Single Ladies' clip and the commercial for Heat.
 Thierry Mugler Parfums will launch a new version of Angel, Angel Eau de Toilette, from September 2011. The jus will also be bottled in a new flacon and fronted by a new spokesperson, actress Eva Mendes...

Marc Jacobs are gearing up for their next buzz marketing campaign to take place this summer in France on June 10 & 11 in the cities of Nancy, Lyon and Nice and on June 17 & 18 in Paris. The urban ad operations will be multi-pronged, involving the use of a caravan of ForTwo Smart cars (also currently benefiting from a separate, independent advertising campaign claiming it will save you from driving your mother-in-law around because there is no room for her) and a couple of living characters called "L'Homme Bang" and "La Femme Daisy." The ad campaign has been entitled "Opération Smart Daisy Eau So Fresh"....

 The Diesel Fuel for Life franchise launched a new duo for men and women called the Denim Collection, with the tag line, "The new sexy fragrance." Denim for Him is a woody citrus and Denim for Her is a woody floral. The playful advertizing campaign seems to prefer to bypass the word "subtle" in its vocabulary. Inspired or not by the ad for Marc Jacobs Bang, the male model, Marlon Teixeira, uses the Denim bottle as yet another oversized codpiece...

Chloé, to fête the success of their pilar fragrance, Chloé (the one I sub-titled the Closet Rose Soliflore), will launch a new advertising campaign from September 2011. The two new faces for the perfume are British actress Imogen Poots and French actress and model Camille Rowe Pourcheresse.  After starting to unveil their new ad campaign for Romance by Ralph Lauren, the brand has now just released the commercial shot by Bruce Weber. It is unusually long for a commercial. Otherwise, rest assured that you will be invited to float on a dreamy world of glamorous gauchos, rich heiresses, antiques cameos, clean, well-ironed children and very high grass caressed by the Argentinian breeze.  Designer, movie director and gifted child Tom Ford - in French you could add, enfant terrible - is well-known for playing up nudity in advertising. For the relaunch of Neroli Portofino, a modern take on the Eau de Cologne genre first issued in 2007, part the Private Blend collection, Ford has not only bottled the scent now in an azurean, transparent apothecary bottle, but offered it a bath product line-up, and last but not least, a fresh advertising campaign. While he may have shocked people in the past just as much if not more for objectifying the naked body rather than the sheer unveiling of it, for his latest effort the atmosphere is much more playful and laidback (having said that, there are NSFW pics after the jump)...

In the 60s, Avon put out an extensive filmed examination of the many advantages of wearing perfume. The distance in time allows us to catch some interesting, idealized habits. They invited women to be "evocative, but provocative." The more than 13 minute film reveal the company's promotional but also educational efforts, proposing for instance a classification of perfume families into 7 categories: "single floral, floral bouquet, woodsy-mossy, oriental, spicy bouquet, fruity, and modern." They presented a nose and what his work was about. They underlined for instance that a perfumer uses the professional term "sees" to say "smell", which is like smelling but with the help of one's own imagination...

Some people seem to be eternal but then one day they bid you adieu. Elizabeth Taylor passed away yesterday and if her flame seemed to flicker in the wind, looking back at her body of work only helps reinforce the feeling that some people do carry with them a measure of eternity and a timeless presence. We're continuing to memorialize Dame Elizabeth Taylor (1932 - 2011) through her career in fragrance-making or perhaps better said, fragrance dream-making. Her most iconic perfume, White Diamonds, was her third launch and her second feminine scent after Passion; its tag line "The fragrance dreams are made of" referred implicitly to her status as a silver screen goddess who had inspired millions of people to dream other lives than their own. But perfume was not just a money-making machine for the actress within the show-biz-cum-fragrance-industry branch of entertainment but had reportedly been a repository of her own imaginings for a long time....
