Last January we heard some exciting news from Balenciaga about a revival of their perfume brand. As the February 2010 deadline for the fragrance launch approaches, the news have come through now that French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, and most importantly the recent recipient of the prize for best actress at the Cannes Festival will be the face of the new Balenciaga perfume. Although from a French standpoint, this may appear like a good choice given Charlotte Gainsbourg's recent exposure to the limelight and more generally her popularity, it is not exactly a mainstream choice. She earned her acting prize for a very difficult role in Lars Von Trier's movie Antechrist which contains some particularly shocking scenes. Even the audience of critics was reportedly aghast. This may explain a certain reserve you can feel in Coty's Catherine Walsh's comment on this selection. As it turns out, Gainsbourg's friendship with Balenciaga's artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière is key in understanding this choice...

After months of speculation, first about the waft of a cherry scent, next with the report on perfume purchases of Boadicea fragrances in London, then with the report of a privileged gift from Creed, The Washingtonian has finally succeeded in
getting the scoop on the answer to the question that many were burning
to know more about: what perfume is First Lady Michelle Obama actually wearing? The First Lady is clearly interested in fragrances and may be wearing more than one, but there is a signature scent she favors.
According
to Melissa Yost, manager of fragrance and cosmetics for the Nordstrom
at Pentagon City...a little drum roll please... But first take a guess. Do you think Mrs Obama's perfume would
be light, intense, fruity, chypré, esoteric, elegant, sweet, dry, oriental, seductive, super-niche, blended at home...?...

In Berlin on July 1, 2009 for the presentation of William Rast at the Bread & Butter fashion trade show.
Asked if he would develop a Justin Timberlake fragrance, the singer answered in the context of a wave of celebrity fragrances and after having posed for Givenchy Play and Play Intense colognes: "There's some level of
narcissism you have to put in check. I don't know that I would be
completely comfortable with a my-name fragrance," "It feels like cheating,
almost. It doesn't seem like you're creating anything... I could see
doing a William Rast* fragrance, but that's as far as I think I'll
take it,"
*William Rast is the name of his new line of clothing

Queen Rania of Jordan and President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner were also honored with the new fruity floral inspired by Tuscany and Renaissance Italy. Michelle Obama has already revealed her personal taste for perfume by reportedly purchasing three Boadicea fragrances in London, and as a child noted at another time during a public visit, by betraying a liking for cherry scent. According to Creed, "..premier bottles of CREED Acqua Fiorentina were delivered to the
office of the First Lady (six bottles!), Queen Rania of Jordan and President Cristina Fernandez de
Kirchner of Argentina,

What started as an internet saga tracking down some of the bits and pieces of news that came to see the light of day around the upcoming Parisienne by Yves Saint Laurent, has now become more widely distributed news. Perfume Notes: Top: golden Tequila accord, Italian bergamot, Mediterranean mandarin; mid notes: Baie rose, jasmine noir, cognac, Moroccan coriander; base notes: Indonesian patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla absolute, tonka absolute, Egyptian incense, sexy musk. Queen by Queen Latifah is the hip-hop singer and actress's debut perfume with a launch scheduled for August 2009. The perfume was made to reflect her love for "golden tonalities, smooth textures, and a certain fondness for exotic flavors", all of which can be felt in the final jus. In fact, the code name for the perfume while it was still in its development stages was "Pure Gold", an indication that semantics played a role in this case to help anchor the inspiration for the fragrance. About Queen the perfume, Latifah said, "For me, beauty really does start on the inside. It's like a state of mind, a state of love if you will. I see fragrance as just a natural expression of this state of love. Scent expresses a woman's confidence and sensuality; it's how she embraces her body, her mind and her strength."
Queen Latifah has recently come into the open to magazine Essence about the secret she had been withholding about her past as a sexually molested child by a teenager who had been entrusted with her care. It makes it all the more powerful a statement. Queen which comes with the tag line "Love steps out first" is a distinctive oriental gourmand with a deep skin-scent finish and a surprisingly rather expensive-smelling sillage. Parlux who developed the fragrance prefer to dub it for their part a " warm, sexy, golden oriental."...

Singer Usher will release a new fragrance, a solo men's fragrance this time called VIP. Its aim? To empower, to seduce. End of story. Or rather it sounds like the beginning of an encounter. "I consider all of my fragrances tools of engagement for seduction --
but this one demands a different type of attention," "That is part of the
reason I led with the males only with this one -- it is made for a man
but for women to enjoy." [...]...
