This post could be titled "The angst of birthing a celebrity fragrance" According to WWD, burlesque icon Dita Von Teese, who is now living between Paris and LA, has been shopping around for a fragrance deal. A triggering event has reportedly been her relationship with her new beau, Louis-Marie de Castelbajac, the son of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, whose mother happens to be wearing the same signature scent as hers, the relatively less well-known classic Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant, a direct ancestor to Chanel No.5...

S by Shakira is the debut fragrance of the bilingual Spanish-English Colombian singer whom virtually everyone must have heard by now interpreting "Waka Waka," the anthem for the FIFA 2010. It was announced as early as 2008 that Shakira would be developing her own scent with Puig Beauty and Fashion Group as part of the celebrity-fragrance trend. The artist is known for her involvement with charitable work and in particular for her Barefoot Foundation / Fundacion Pies Descalzos. The institution springs from an early childhood memory of having been confronted with children's destitution at a time when her parents wanted to assuage her own anxieties about the family's financial downturn - at 8 she was invited to witness the much more distressful condition of abandoned children living on the street and sniffing glue...

Japanese Vogue editor-at-large Anna Dello Russo is getting ready to launch her debut fragrance called Anna Dello Russo. She already released the commercial for it on where else but You Tube. Bottled in a golden slipper reminiscent of the myth of Cinderella as well as of vintage Coty novelty perfume flacons of yore, it is simply meant to be a "gadget", a "mass-market toy." The editor added to underline the playfulness of the project, "I wanted to create something pop."
The Cinderella reference is meant to convey a message of rags-to-riches moral tale or rather as it turns out anonymity-to-fame one in the era of the internet. As Dello Russo points out to WWD, “For 20 years no one noticed me — I worked like Cinderella at the bottom of the pile. Finally I’ve been invited to the ball,” she said referring to her fairy-tale blogosphere fame at the age of 47, and a flurry of commercial offers"....

Is it because Josie by Josie Gibson benefits cancer research, with each perfume sold sending £1 to the charity Look Good Feel Better or is there something more mysterious at work which explains why the celebrity scent issued by Big Brother 11 winner Gibson has sold out in 20 minutes at the Perfume Shop? I have no idea because until this morning I never even knew Josie Gibson existed. But she is hyper popular apparently with reality TV fans and as blogger Samuel Dean points out, "The £19.50 perfume has broken all Perfume Shop records and has sold out quicker that several other A-list fragrances."...

Dannii Minogue, the sister of Kylie Minogue, together with her best friend fashion designer Tabitha Somerset Webb have launched a perfume called Project D which is named after their own fashion clothing line. You can read about how they met here. The twist in this case is that the fragrance can be worn classically as a whole or as broken down into its top, middle and base accords, then remixed at will. "Project D by Dannii and Tabitha signature Perfume is an enchanting perfume that has been inspired by the marriage of two very distinct styles - Dannii Minogue's signature sophisticated glamour and Tabitha Somerset Webb's rock 'n' roll edge. It carries a timeless and stylish essence; each note carefully selected to ensure each woman feels utterly glamorous, from Dawn (ready to inspire) through to Day (ready to intrigue) all the way until Dusk (ready to ignite)"...

We knew Katie Price aka Jordan could be a standard-bearer for trashy, kitschy aesthetics, but we think the presentation for the launch of Precious Love by Katie Price beats a new record and reaches new heights of untrammelled bad taste. How about renaming the fragrance "Fake" by Katie Price as obviously the flowers, fur, breasts, mouth, and hair are, consistently? Don't you feel like you need to rinse your eyes after laying them on this ad for the new scent?...

Taylor Swift poses for Michael Thompson in a reenactment of a Cacharel ad from the late 70s by Sarah Moon. Taylor Swift is the latest celebrity from the show business to join the ranks of style inspirators at Elizabeth Arden fragrances. Pop singer Katy Perry has launched her debut fragrance with Purr, a scent which is meant to embody her tastes in perfume as well as her personality. The artist says she is confident Purr won't smell like anything else on the market, which may appear to be quite the bold and over-confident statement in a reality thronged with smell-alikes. At any rate, the product is a celebrity fragrance to the hilt. As Perry states for instance regarding the choice of name for the juice, "I'm a very lyrical-based person, and the whole 'purr' thing kept coming back - the sound is in perfume, perfect, even Perry if you say it a certain way."...

The latest JLo fragrance, Love and Glamour, was created by perfumers Honorine Blanc and Harry Fremont of Firmenich. Notes are Italian mandarin, guava and nectarine pulp / a heart of water lily, coconut orchid, orange flower absolute and jasmine petals / sandalwood, sensual musk and amber. While the list of notes felt déjà-vu, Jennifer Lopez did say something encouraging, "Making the bottle, creating the packaging, creating the campaign -- it's all so much easier than creating the juice. You always want to create something signature -- that's always kind of what I'm pushing for when working with Coty. You want it to be a combination that people have never smelled before. It's always an exciting time, because the sky's the limit and it can go in any direction." The statement turns out to be vastly gungho and upon smelling the juice makes you feel like a Kathmandu street dentist promised you tooth extraction would be painless while breaking into a broad smile accented with a double row of gold teeth...

We have a special place in our hearts for Jordin Sparks. She won us over on American Idol with her sweet-as-pie personality and powerful vocals and she continues to impress us as she's matures as an artist. So it comes as no surprise that the multitasking star is ready to conquer a new arena--fragrance. At an event this morning, Jordin unveiled her first ever perfume, called Because of You. The fruity floral scent features notes of clementine, orange blossom, orchid, peony and vanilla bean to create a very girly, subtly sexy scent with fresh undertones... Adora is the third and newly out fragrance by tattoo artist Kat Von D following Saint and Sinner in 2009. Its name means "Beloved One" in Latin. The tag line is "Life holds new meaning when you're in love." If you are current with your people's news you know she is now in a relationship with Jesse James, Sandra Bullock's ex-husband, or at least was as of Sept 2, 2010 (things can evolve lightning fast in this area in showbusiness especially.) Kat Von D said, The word Adora has special meaning for me,” explains Kat. “I chose it because it takes me to some of my most passionate and tormented moments. The emotions that love evokes are unforgettable and this fragrance is like my reminiscence. Like her previous perfumes, the new fragrance reveals better than her makeup line does (except for the extraordinarily buttery texture of her lipsticks) the soft side of a woman who is daring visually but much more subtle in her choice of scents. If her color philosophy is more about calling attention to herself, her perfume preferences seem to go in the direction of intimate scents. The description "She's a romantic soul with an edgy exterior" is apt in translating the feel of this new scent...

Reggaeton singer Daddy Yankee is launching his second perfume this month, this time a women's scent following his debut cologne Dy for Men (2008). It's called DYamante, combining references to both diamonds and love fantasies around the figure of no one but "El Cangri", one of his nicknames which means a handsome, well-fed man, a dandy, or the boss in Puerto Rican dialect. On his Twitter account, Daddy Yankee announced the launch with a tweet to his female following: "To all my sexy ladies here is DY "Amante." DYAMANTE emphasizes the sophisticated and stylish side of a woman while inspiring the values, heritage and positivity that Daddy Yankee consistently represents....

Celebrity Kim Kardashian is commercializing a limited-edition rollerball of her signature debut fragrance this month. This Pink Ribbon edition will help finance her charity of choice: 10% of sales will be donated to the Young Survival Coalition, founded in 1998 by three young breast cancer survivors. Already in June 2010 the reality TV star had announced on her blog that the rollerball pen would be available only at Sephora this fall. Since then, there has been a falling-out between the two partners and the fan-designed scent is now exclusively available through KK's own fragrance site and Perfumania...
