Singer Christina Aguilera is preparing to launch her new perfume calledInspireand on this occasion will be visiting Macy's Herald Square on September 2, 2008, from 5: 00 pm to 6: 30 pm to meet and greet her fans. The new scent is reportedly inspired by her love of pop art and is "...a modern approach to the Pop art style of the 60's and 70's inspired by Tokyo at night."
"Inspire is a beautiful white floral enhanced with colourful fruit notes
chosen by Christina. A little known fact is that the freesia, one of the key
notes within Inspire, is a small and delicate flower, yet has a very
powerful presence, much like Christina."
Dianne Brill Cosmetics will launch their debut signature fragrance called Dianne Brill Eau de Parfum on
September 15, 2008. Model Dianne Brill who has worked for designers Thierry Mugler, Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood, has been dubbed the "Queen of
the Night", the "New Mae West" and a "Feminist Feme Fatale". As her seduction tips on the brand's website suggest, she could also easily be called the "Highest Priestess of Love" and the "Mistress of Kisses".
Just like the author of Boobs, Boys & High Heels or How to get Dressed in Just Under Six Hours seems to be bursting with personality, her fragrance is no wallflower and presents itself differently.
The new scent is said to be first and foremost about feeling,
"Dianne
Brill's Perfume is the essence of Ms. Brill's philosophy which is to
deliver a feeling. The feeling you get when you open a present of
lingerie, jewelry or exquisite bonbons. That feeling."
It
also embodies a pet sensual sensation of Brill's, that of the slip
gliding on the skin, which she also loves to recreate with her line of
Lip Lingerie, i.e., lipsticks. For these reasons, no information on the
notes is extended per se yet specific feelings developed by the perfume
are described, in three stages. The perfume was developed over the
course of 8 years and was composed by perfumer Valérie Garnuch-Mentzel of Drom International Fragrances...
Spermodel and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issues' frequent feature girl Marisa Miller has been selected to be the new Victoria's Secret Angel.
She will also be the spokesmodel for their new fragrance Very Sexy Dare when it launches on September 16, 2008 at the Victoria's Secret Herald Square store in New York City.
Pole-Vaulter champion Yelena Isinbayeva has her eyes on other prizes besides Olympic gold medals: a signature perfume and a fashion line, the latter possibly with Adidas.
She is currently looking for a top-notch fragrance company to make her perfume project come to fruition. She already has the name of the scent and apparently some very clear ideas about what feminine virtues it should embody...
As previously announced (see sumptuous ad), iconic super model Kate Moss is preparing to introduce her second namesake perfume following Kate, this time named Velvet Hour.
Since we know that Guerlain l'Heure Bleue is one of two of her favorite perfumes, with Bluebell by Penhaligon's, it is very tempting to think that Velvet Hour is a poetic translation of the first one. We are in fact encouraged to do so by the description of the atmosphere that the scent conveys, if not by the literal notes themselves.
The press release invites us to imagine that the new scent might be a reinterpretation of a sensation linked with the Guerlain fragrance famously known to, itself, translate this time of the day suspended between day and night,
"With her new fragrance,
Kate invites you to be part of her 'Velvet Hour',
a brief, precious moment as dusk settles, when the air is electrified
with possibility. It is all about entering an intimate, almost
ritualistic moment of intense sensuality and seduction as she describes
it herself: "this scent conjures up that special moment when night
time comes and envelops you in velvet. I really love that time,
it's very sexy and sensuous, full of longing and promise." ...
Jessica Simpson Fancy is the singer's first debut fragrance and second foray into the world of perfume following her dessert line of edible scents, which was based on a personal idea of hers. I do not remember exactly how I came up with the subsequent idea, but I remember reading about that range in an interview given by Jessica Simpson and coming away with the impression that she must have been a gifted child and that these sweet-tasting scents were an expression of her own idiosyncratic outlook on the world. What we can also retain from this is that for the young singer and actress the confluence of perfume and food is there as one of the pathways built into her brain and as a personal interest of hers from early on. With Fancy, she did not waver from her initial interest. Despite the fact that the new fragrance is described officially as a floral oriental, it is at the same time very much a gourmand and a fruity-floral scent, done in a girly way.
My preamble about Jessica's personal emotional investment in the idea of what a fragrance can be is not to say that Fancy is an original perfume. In fact, it is quite the contrary. Fancy is very much in tune with a trend of perfumes that was especially exploited in the field of US celebs scents and which are built around a main self-indulgent sweet variation of fruit-salad-drizzled-over-with-cream, a very popular accord. The little difference we witness in this case is a slightly more grownup furry ambery facet reminiscent, however distantly, of classics such as Zibeline and Tabu. This vintage, retro touch, with a sprinkle of less-distant-in-time louder 1980s fashion-sense at times, has made a comeback recently in Guess by Marciano and others, and matches the style of the bottle...
Who knew a perfume could serve as platform for political activism? Many people realize that a fragrance is like a bouquet of olfactory symbols, usually along the lines of aspirational representations. Most often a perfume aspires to irresistible seduction or puts you on the waiting-list for upward social mobility and sometimes, but much less often so, expresses a hopeful political message.
Sean Combs will launch a new perfume for men called I Am King in December 2008, first in the US and UK. Before anyone starts thinking it is all about diva P Diddy, Combs makes sure to stress that the name of his new fragrance is a mantra of self-affirmation, a reflection of politico-social ambitions and especially aimed at African-American and Latino men,
"You have to look at all of the images they have out about
African-Americans," said Combs. "So when you see this image, you need
to understand it's bigger than the fragrance, it's bigger than me. When
a young African-American male or a young Latino male sees this image,
they see this elegant sophistication and they see I Am King next to it
-- it hits their senses and they believe; that's what motivates me when
I'm taking the pictures."...
Following an earlier announcement in March, Avonunveiled their new celebrity perfume inspired by actor Patrick Dempsey at a launch party hosted by the company's Chairman and CEO Andrea Jung in the Skyloft Penthouse in Tribeca on July 22th 2008. The actor is no stranger to the company as Dempsey's wife, makeup artist Jillian Dempsey has been working with Avon since July 2006 as their Global Creative Color Director.
The new scent called Unscripted bears the tagline "Follow your passion", making a central reference to the mythical theme of the open road, and according to Avon, "...captures the true essence of Patrick and his belief that each individual should develop and write their own script for life."
Dempsey himself said, "I enjoyed the opportunity to play a different creative role by working on this fragrance from start to finish. Unscripted is about loving what you do and doing it in your own unique way."...
As announced earlier in April, Actress and singer Jessica Simpson will launch her debut signature fragrance called Fancy in August 2008. It was created by perfumer Alexis Dadier of Mane Paris and developed with Parlux Fragrances and the Camuto Group.
The scent is described as being fresh and flirtatious and an expression of floral femininity. Simpson said,
"With FANCY, I wanted to create a pretty fragrance, one that I could be just as comfortable wearing on the red carpet or every day with my favorite jeans," "This is a special fragrance - personal, whimsical, playful and romantic. To me, FANCY is just that: Fancy." ...
As previously reported, Halle Berry is going to contribute to the ever-growing portfolio of Coty's celebrity-endorsed fragrances. Judging from the first photos available, the theme is sunny and beach-y. It does not seem that the Halle Berry fragrance will go in the direction of a super glamorous fur-and-diamonds perfume. Brown Sista reports on the commercial shoot in Hawaii and she offers a few more pictures.
Actress Sarah Jessica Parker talks about her latest Covet Pure Bloom explaining it was inspired by the scents of Hawaii and of the Pikake flower in particular. To her, it is more of a seasonal fragrance and offers something more unique than Lovely although the latter is admittedly full of social graces. She says that she wears all of her perfumes "religiously".
Covet Pure Bloom is currently exclusively available on HSN. A kit including a 1.7 oz bottle of the new scent and a solid perfume compact of Covet, the second one of her perfumes, is available for $52.
On July 8th 2008 in Paris, designer John Galliano, the artistic director for Dior Couture, launched his debut signature fragrance in the rather intimate settings of his studio located in the 20th arrondissement. The tag line goes "Le parfum no. 1 de John Galliano". He previously created a home fragrance with Diptyque under his name called Essence of John Galliano, a wonderful scent smelling of a bonfire. He also had a say in the Dior La Collection Particulière.
The signature John Galliano perfume was developed by Selective Beauty who is also in charge of the Bulgari, Agent Provocateur, Burberry, and Benetton brands.
No information yet on the notes, but the bottle can be admired: it looks wild, baroque, talismanic, mysterious, gothic! It looks promising if the jus feels anything like the external aesthetics of the flacon.
The studio baroque and eclectic interior design seemed to correspond well to the style of the bottle...
The Beckhams will be launching a new duo of fragrances called Beckham Signature for Her and Him in September 2008 following the two Intimately Beckham Night scents last year.
The new venture reportedly represents a foray into more prestige branding and is meant to reflect their new image since their establishment in California. It is not entirely clear what this means, but it seems to be an allusion to a more ostentatious, glamorous Californian lifestyle and maybe something to do with the myth of the American dream. At any rate and as always, Victoria promises that by purchasing the new scents, "You're getting a piece of David and me with this." The brand said,
"We decided to launch Beckham Signature for Him and Her in the prestige market due to the high style and aspirational nature of David and Victoria,"[...]
"In order to capture their iconic, sophisticated sense of style, it seemed appropriate to take the Beckham franchise to the next level. This is the most selective and exclusive fragrance launch yet." ....
Ivanka Trump, the daughter of mogul estate developer Donald Trump - who himself launched a signature fragrance in the past - revealed to Town and Country in the July issue what perfumes she likes to wear or use for her home.

The house of Azzaro has announced two days ago that they will re-introduce in October of 2008 an adapted version of Azzaro Couture which was originally launched in 1974-1975 as a fruity chypre in the lineage of Guerlain Mitsouko. While other brands like Guerlain and Yves Saint Laurent are trying to reach out to a younger female consumer base Azzaro, who has put out a number of more juvenile, less formal scents in the past few years, is tapping into its glamorous heritage for this new perfume meant to be worn like a night gown.
Turning to young perfumer Aurélien Guichard of Givaudan, who is fast becoming an expert in modernized adaptations of vintage fragrances (see Robert Piguet Baghari and Visa), they asked him to do a respectful reformulation of the perfume all the while preserving the Loris Azzaro signature; artistic director Vanessa Seward, who collaborated on the project, said that it was on of the couturier's favorite fragrances. Said Seward,
"Azzaro Couture was very important for Loris,” she confirmed. “It was one of his favourite perfumes…and he often talked to me about it. He wanted to tailor it to today’s tastes. I decided to approach this classic with respect for the roots of the name and its Couture tradition…as an homage to him.".....
