Dita Von Teese Proclaims She is a Femme Totale (2011) {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume}

Dita_von_teese_advert.jpgThe long-awaited unveiling of the debut fragrance by burlesque icon Dita Von Teese has finally taken place. After a corner of the veil was lifted at the beginning of the month, the full details have been revealed. The name of the fragrance is like a feminist manifesto in reverse, Dita Von Teese, Femme Totale. There won't be any copying of male behavior here, but a full-on embrace of femininity.

"Her new perfume is just like she is as a woman: glamorous and mysterious, self-confident and seductive. Dita Von Teese created a scent for the type of woman that she embodies like no other: the Femme Totale. She is a vamp and an innocent beauty, provocative and unattainable at the same time. She knows what she wants, and how she will get it – with style, class, and elegance."...

A New Opium Leading Lady for Yves Saint Laurent {Fragrance News} {Celebrity Perfume}

emily_blunt_sept_2011_ok.jpgActress Emily Blunt arrives at "Salmon Fishing In The Yemen" Premiere at Princess Of Wales during the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2011 in Toronto, Canada.

Yves Saint Laurent announced that they will launch a new advertising campaign for Opium, their iconic Oriental perfume from the artificial-paradise side of the 1970s. The new leading lady to be the face for the fragrance is British actress Emily Blunt, an unexpected choice if you think of her role as the young Queen Victoria, but closer to home if you envision her as Harriet in Salmon Fishing in the Yemen where the story does play upon the trope of British reserve set against a more smouldering Arabian backdrop...

Madonna Loves to Wear Fracas by Robert Piguet {Celebrity Perfumes}

Fracas_Visuel_ok.jpgWe weren't far from the truth apparently when we said yesterday that Madonna might be inspired to propose a Fracas 2.0 for her upcoming signature perfume, Truth or Dare. It turns out that apart from knowing that Madonna loves younger men preferably aged 25, the second equally famous factoid about her is that she wears the tuberose pean called Fracas by Robert Piguet. It's a scent beloved by many powerful women as Martha Stewart also calls it her own and we know for a fact that the American jet set would swoon over it...

Madonna Truth or Dare Perfume Already Christened & Bottled {Celebrity Fragrance}

Madonna_Truth_or_Dare.jpgA moment of evocative olfactory malaise in Truth or Dare, if you carry a US citizenship card/ In Bed with Madonna, if you are living in promiscuous Europe.

Last time we reported the news that Madonna was in "serious talks" with Coty to develop her signature perfume. According to Lisa Tant of Flare magazine, the fragrance has already been nailed. Its name is Truth or Dare, taking its title from the documentary that depicted Madonna during her Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990. But you can also choose to read in-between the lines as the documentary was called more boldly "In Bed with Madonna" outside of the US. And Tant got to take a first sniff of the perfume....

Madonna & Fragrance: A Happy Ending with Coty? {Fragrance News} {Celebrity Perfume}

madonna.jpgMadonna and Fragrance, might be the title of a beauty saga spanning the years, of which we know only a few passages. The singer, director and fashion entrepreneur is known for her taste for perfume and her wish to create a signature scent. But while everybody generally agrees that a Madonna perfume could only rock, no agreement was reached in the past to make the idea come to fruition. Until now, apparently...

Dita Von Teese Tells More About Her Upcoming Perfume {Celebrity Perfume}

dita_von_teese_trianon_ok.jpg

Burlesque icon Dita Von Teese has been practising the art of perfume news stripteasing for almost a year now. In December 2010, she announced that she was shopping for a fragrance deal. Then in February 2011, she promised us that it would have a dash of vulgarity. In May 2011, she had nailed the personality of her fragrance. Most recently, yesterday, the artist revealed more about the process and the notes....

Fergie Outspoken Intense by Avon (2011) {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume}

fergie_outspoken_intense_ad_2.jpg

Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas released a new perfume in July, which is a sequel to her debut scent, Outspoken from 2010 (see review.) The latest one is a flanker called Outspoken Intense. One of the two tag lines I have seen other than the one above in the advert is "Own the moment."

What caught my eye is how laden it is with exotic notes that I love in edible form - starfruit, kumquat - but also in floral form - purple passion flower, gardenia...

Conan O'Brien Midnight Potato No.5 Cologne {Fragrance News} {Celebrity Perfume}

2011-08-Midnight-Potato-Conan-OBrien.jpgLate-night show host Conan O'Brien thought what was lacking from the celebrity-fragrance landscape was a cologne inspired by him. His new perfume is called Midnight Potato No.5. From there, O'Brien launches into a spoof and offers a non-sensical fragrance commercial filled with overblown pathos and voiced-over with the requisite French accent.

The most hilarious part for me was the finale and the delivery with which a tired, blasé and highly snob-sounding French voice says "Available in..some... stores." Check out the video after the jump...

Taylor Swift will Launch Her Debut Fragrance Wonderstruck (2011) {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume}

Wonderstruck_Taylor_Swift_ok.jpgCountry pop singer Taylor Swift will release her debut perfume in October 2011. It's named Wonderstruck after the lyrics of her song Enchanted from the album Speak Now. Swift has remarked in the past that her fans pay particular attention to the words used in her songs and so the name here would have a quasi talismanic aspect given the popularity of the song.

 "Wonderstruck is that awe-inspiring feeling that comes from experiencing something magical, especially the rush of an instant connection with someone. Taylor hopes to capture that feeling in a fragrance"....

Justin Bieber Someday Turned into The Bocker Glory Ice-Cream {Fragrance News} {Celebrity Perfume}

someday_ice_cream_justin_bieber.jpgFor people complaining that too many fragrances nowadays are slanted towards the sweet-toothed, Someday by Justin Bieber is going to drive the point home further, but with a twist. Here sweetness will be associated with the mission of helping a children's charity.

With the launch of Bieber's debut perfume at Harrods, the Ice Cream Parlour decided to make the event even more exclusive with the creation of an ice-cream treat directly influenced by the notes of the Someday fragrance: Mandarin, Juicy Pear, Wild Berries, Jasmine, Creamy Florals, Vanilla, Soft Musks. It has been called The Bocker Glory...

Kim Kardashian Releases Bridal Scent Called Love (2011) {New Fragrance - Limited Edition} {Celebrity Scent}

Kardashian_Love_perfume_A.jpgAs TV-reality star Kim Kardashian prepares for her wedding day to take place on August the 20th, 2011, she decided to mark the event with the launch of a limited-edition perfume named Love.

Only 1000 numbered copies were issued. The scoop is that this is actually the fragrance that Kim will wear when she pronounces her vows, having kept one bottle for herself while 200 flacons were set aside for her bridal shower party. 799 bottles only are up for sale "to share the love with her fans"...

Keith Urban More than Dabbles in Cologne with Phoenix (2011) {New Fragrance} {Men's Cologne} {Celebrity Scent}

keith-urban_cologne_ad.JPG

Country singer Keith Urban has released a new men's cologne called Phoenix.  It's his first. He joins the likes of Tim McGraw while tapping into the great American myth which was translated into perfume with, for instance, the Stetson collection. Unlike most other celebrities, the singer did not want his scent to be associated too obviously with his name. He said,

“The last thing I want to make a man do is: When someone asks him what he’s wearing is for that poor man to say, ‘I’m wearing Keith Urban,’” he said. “That just seems really awkward to me. I wanted to allow a man the dignity to respond with something that is a little more appropriate. Not too hoity-toity, not too chic and metro, something that’s got a nice, masculine simplicity to it. I felt Phoenix fit that really well.”...

Jil Sander Eve Fronted by Das Parfüm Actress Karoline Herfurth Already Sold Out (2011) {New Perfume} {Fragrance News} {Celebrity Scent}

jil_sander_eve_ad.jpg

Jil Sander released their latest women's fragrance called Eve on July 13, 2011 as an online exclusive, with the tag line "The woman, her perfume." A week later, it is already sold out on the brand's international website despite the clear lack of virtual testers. The fragrance is slated to debut in brick-and-mortar stores in September 2011.

What was supposed to be a low-key event has turned into something of a sensation, which of course, cannot be attributed to the myth of Eve only...

CB I Hate Perfume 2nd (Alan) Cumming or the Anti-Celebrity Scent (2011) {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume}

2ND_CUMMING_Brosius.jpg

A little provocation doesn't hurt, so Alan Cumming is sticking to his original formula with his new re-release of the original Cumming from 2005 now called 2nd (Alan) Cumming. According to perfumer Christopher Brosius of CB I Hate Perfume who composed the perfume working closely with the actor, the perfume is the same as the first one. All proceeds will be donated to LGBT charities.

The 2nd Cumming re-launch took place at the Ace Hotel's basement club in New York City on July 14th, 2011. Little twists and whimsies were thrown in, like the use of a tub of men's underwear that had been copiously doused with the jus to let guests experience the scent in context....
