nezanez_paris.jpg

The young Paris-based niche perfume house Nez à Nez, with roots in Grasse, founded by Christa Patout and her husband Stéphane Humbert in 2005 is planning to further expand this year. You can read the interview we had with them last year. Their collection of fragrances, composed by perfumer Karine Chevallier, will be available in the US from September 2007 in department stores such as Barneys, Bergdof Goodman, Bloomingdales, and elsewhere. That same month, Nez à Nez will also debut in Russia and Ukraine. Earlier in July, Spain will also be on the brand's map.......

SoniaRykiel_WomanHot.jpg

Sonia Rykiel is offering a new fragrance for the summer called Woman Hot! With a wink at consumers who might feel tired by one too many fruity-floral perfume falling into their laps, the brand audaciously and with some humor states that it purports to reinvent the fruity-floral genre with it. Well, who knows?

Les Parfums de Rosine Diabolo Rose {Perfume Review & Musings} {New Perfume}

diabolo-rose.jpg

Diabolo Rose is the latest rose perfume creation by Les Parfums de Rosine, a niche perfume house established in 1991 and located at the Palais Royal in Paris, which centers its collection exclusively on the queen of the flowers, her majesty the rose. The perfume was composed by nose François Robert interpreting an idea proposed by Marie-Hélène Rogeon, the founder and owner of the brand. The scent is described as a fresh floral, which is adequate enough, except that this does not do entirely justice to the central showcasing of the heavier sensual character of the rose absolute......

Opus Oils: Perfume Collections From the Burlesque To The Divine {Fragrance News} {New Perfume} {Niche Perfumery Directory}

OpusOils.jpg

Opus Oils is a perfume brand based both in Hollywood and Paris, which proposes several collections of perfumes that are whimsical, narrative, and retro in their appeal. We received a press release regarding their latest creation, a burlesque fragrance called Roller Girl "inspired by our love for the rough and tumble game of Roller Derby & the beautiful, skilled & talented women that play it."

Absinthia.png

Visiting their website, we were drawn towards their for-her and for-him wormwood fragrance duo, each fragrance being respectively named Absinthia (notes of wisteria, vanilla sugar, actual absinthe...) and Absintheo (same notes, with added fig and sandalwood). In our book, it is always worthwhile to stop to smell the wormwood and get dazzled by a beautiful emerald-green color. (Read our review of Absolument Absinthe)....

New & New-To-The-US Fragrances by Yves Rocher: Altika, Jardins des Iles, Désir de Pivoine, Eau de Cologne Verveine {New Perfumes}

Altika.png

Yves Rocher fragrances can be surprisingly good, the more so since their price points are extremely reasonable. The brand employs excellent, even great perfumers, thus discreetly developing a democratic ideal for perfume-wearing. Not all of their scents are immediately available in the US, but when they do, it is worth trying them.

In a very timely fashion, as Father's Day on June 17 is approaching, a new men's scent called Altikä is now available in the US. It is described as a fresh woody cologne with notes of ozone, polar mint, and cedar. It is inspired by the sensation of intense mountain winds in the Alps. It retails $21 for 2.5 oz....

Liberté by Cacharel {Perfume Review & Musings} {New Perfume}

Cacharel_Liberté.png
Cacharel Liberté (Freedom) was presented by the brand as a concerted effort aimed at seducing the daughters of the women who wore Anaïs Anaïs, introduced in 1978. If in the middle of the feminist wars then some people pined for softer, more passive models of womanhood exemplified by the young-women-in-bloom theme of Anaïs Anaïs and fell for the popular soft erotica of photographs taken with what seemed to beVaseline-covered lenses by David Hamilton (not the photographer for Anaïs Anaïs), it appears that in an era where the job of a stay-at-home mother in the Chicago area is valued at a little less than $100 000 a year by the New York Times and more college women apparently wish to pursue careers as homemakers once they graduate, the new aspirational fragrance better be called “freedom”. Gisele Bündchen, the face for Liberté, now offers the image of an outdoorsy modern-day amazon who carries her bottle of Liberté fragrance like a flask of hard liquor in her jeans or more virtuously-put, a sports bottle. Only her romantic Cacharel shirt betrays some continuity with the old-school romantic femininity of her predecessor, Anaïs Anaïs.......

Vivara by Pucci {New Perfume}

Vivara_Pucci.jpg

Italian fashion brand Pucci is bringing back the name and some of the ideas of the old Vivara perfume to the market by preparing to launch a new Vivara perfume in September of 2007. The perfume is a chypre and shares a common note of galbanum with the older concoction which was introduced in 1966. Perfumer François Demachy composed Vivara (the new one) described as a "more modern chypre", following an interesting trend aimed at renewing our visions of chypre fragrances while doing away with traditional oakmoss......
