Vitriol d'Oeillet (lit. Carnation Vitriol) will be the next opus signed by French perfume creator Serge Lutens. A greatly influential figure on the scene of contemporary perfumery, his works, for which he is the visionary alongside perfumer Christopher Sheldrake, are usually much anticipated for their capacity to shake people out of their dogmatic olfactory slumbers, or in quieter times, for their subtle, psychological introspective quality. The latest composition, which centers on a somewhat neglected flower in the world of fragrances, carnation or more precisely here pink clove also called "oeillet du poète" in French, is one of those Lutensian fragrances that come with a manifesto and a call to arms against the reigning order of stupidity and prosaism...

Teen pop idol Justin Bieber, after launching a collection of scented dog tags for humans in 2010 has decided to be more conservative this time with the introduction of a new, bottled women's perfume under his label, called Someday. The singer said, “Let’s be real, the way a girl smells is very important to a guy! I have such a deep connection with my fans, so creating a fragrance that I personally love is another way I can bring them closer to my world,”....

Penhaligon's will launch the last two chapters in their refurbished Anthology collection in July 2011 with Eau Sans Pareil (lit. Water Without Equal) and Esprit du Roi (Spirit of the King). This library of scents consists since its introduction in 2009 of both a mix of faithfully recreated formulae and novel takes on old ideas. The two new creations are presented as creative scents.
Eau Sans Pareil signed by nose Beverley Bayne of CPL Aromas is described as a "shimmering chypre" while Esprit du Roi, "a lush woody citrus" is the work of master perfumer for the house Bertrand Duchaufour...

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the house, Annick Goutal will launch a new fragrance with a rather unique story line behind it, Mon Parfum Chéri par Camille (My Darling Perfume by Camille). The composition is reportedly inspired by a small concrete that writer Colette once upon a time gave to founder of the brand est.1980, Annick Goutal. Colette is well-known for having had an exceptionally keen nose and was moreover once herself a beauty entrepreneur. Of the concrete we are told that it is "a woody, timeless fragrance that has survided decades without aging" (like my bottle of L'Autre by Diptyque apparently)...

Jo Malone will launch a new perfume from September 2011 called Wild Bluebell (Jacinthe des Bois or Muguet Bleu in French). The initial launch party took place in New York City. No further information on the notes is available yet but judging from the packaging, it is influenced by the bluish visions of Tim Burton for Alice in Wonderland (2010)....

The Different Company, a creative perfumery (as opposed to mainstream, industrial labels) will nevertheless bow to the pressures of popularity with the release of an agarwood composition. Oud has become the new must-have Oriental note and so it seems that every self-respecting house with an eye for both commerce and classicism needs to propose its own oud interpretation. Oud Shamash in the Collection Excessive, like the recent Memo Shams, explores solar mythology to showcase the material. Created by new in-house perfumer for the brand, Bertrand Duchaufour, it will be the second oud-centric composition by the nose who has already signed L'Artisan Parfumeur Al Oudh. Like the former, the new scent reportedly offers a relatively soft variation on the note...

Estée Lauder will add a third fragrance to their Sensous collection with Sensuous Nude to be introduced in August 2011 just in time to catch those last rays of sunshine (we hope not) and prepare for the autumn festivities. The perfume comes after Sensuous (2008) and Sensuous Noir (2010). Jane Hertzmark Hudis, global brand president for Estée Lauder said, “Sensuality needs full expression — no one scent encompasses the full expression of what is sensuous,” -- that's for the philosophical aspect -- "We always intended to use Sensuous as a platform to explore that concept. We are building this franchise for the long haul.” -- that's for the marketing aspect...

Kenzo have launched a new, limited-edition duo of scents for spring-summer 2011 called Kenzo L'Eau Wild Edition for Women and Men. They are flankers to the original L'Eau (1996.) "Water has no color. Van Cleef & Arpels have launched a new flanker to the original First by Van Cleef & Arpels, called Un Air de First. Its name indicates it wishes to draw a link with the baroque-period work of perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena who tends to reject this composition as something of a lapse in personal style although it's a beloved perfume by many. Perfumer Nathalie Gracia-Cetto of Givaudan composed the new jus...

Professional wrestler, model and singer-songwriter Maria Kanellis has launched her signature line of perfumes in collaboration with the Cream Perfume Company (we thought those little wooden egg-y boxes looked familiar.) Dedicated to the SoCal lifestyle the fragrance label is trying its relaxed hand at the celebrity-perfume market in scent bottles which are the equivalent body-and-soul of wooden clogs. Maria Kanellis Signature Perfume Line comprises Mimosa Cream Perfume, Sandalwood Cream Perfume and Ylang Cream Perfume....

Brooks Brothers are stepping away a bit more than usual from their image of well-tailored, men's elegance by introducing a women's perfume which wants to amp up the glamor and glitz factors. Madison for Her is a floral-spicy-leather blend. The flacon is decorated with a removable jewel representing a crystal version of the golden-fleece logo used by the brand. "Introducing Brooks Brothers Madison for her, a new style of signature fragrance that captures the essence of the feminine, flirty and glamorous. Madison is filled with dramatic notes..."

Vera Wang is stepping out of her comfort zone (read the comfortable mule slippers of her popular collection "Princess") to launch a new franchise with Lovestruck, to debut on June 5, 2011 at Harrods and in August in the US. While her signature modern-day bridal romanticism is still honored, the ad copy for Lovestruck advocates breathless love, the kind that once made sense to teenage lovers Romeo and Juliet for the time of a play. Vera Wang writes on her official blog, "LOVESTRUCK….the name of my brand new fragrance!…..All about being overwhelmed, inexplicably, hopelessly in love. Allowing yourself to feel passion inspite [sic] of yourself, the situation, the repercussions. A new definition of Romeo and Juliet! Sexy, sensual, and unstoppable!"....
