The_scent_of_departure.jpgHistoires de Parfums are teaming up with airport duty-free shops to showcase their new collection entitled The Scent of Departure. The library is dedicated to bottling the scents of each and every imaginable city in the world that is an air-travel hub. Consumers can even participate in the design and creation of new destination scents by filling out an online form asking them about the city they see for the collection, the perfume notes they think ought to be included and the image to put on the flacon...

weekend_deauville_2011.jpgTwo years ago in 2009, perfumer Patricia de Nicolaï founder and the principal nose for Nicolaï composed a limited-edition of a new fragrance called Week-End à Deauville (Weekend in Deauville.) I reviewed it here. In the spring of 2011, a new version of Week-End à Deauville has been launched.

According to press officer Sophie d'Auber, "Patricia reworked this green floral, dressing it with floral and fruity notes."...

Tim McGraw Silver (2010): Urban Cowboy {Newly Referenced Fragrance} {Celebrity Scent} {Perfume Images & Ads}

mcgraw_silver_ad_A.jpgIn the summer of 2010, country star Tim McGraw released his third perfume called McGraw Silver. It came after the reported success of McGraw (2008) and Southern Blend (2009.) The message of the cologne was to play up to the countryside versus big-city mentalities while promising that McGraw Silver would resolve the tension into a harmonious whole with the promise contained in the tag line "Where Down Home Meets Downtown."...

DSH_vert_pour_madame.jpgColorado-based independent perfumer Dawn Spencer Hurwitz aka DSH has launched a new creation called Vert pour Madame (Green for Madam.) It was reportedly inspired by the "lush" and "radiant" green floral chypre compositions popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s...

Memo Shams: The Last Word On Oud Has Not Been Uttered Yet (2011) {New Fragrance}

Memo_Shams_Fragrance.jpg

With its latest release Shams meaning "Sun" in Arabic, Parisian niche perfumery Memo seems to be stressing the point that oud or agarwood is not to be viewed anymore as a material signalling an effort at originality but rather as a new classic note almost on a par with rose in its new-found iconicity. Oud has become one of the indispensable and expected olfactory notes every self-respecting perfumery ought to offer in their catalog, it seems. It's not a trend anymore, it's a new cultural motif.

Guerlain, one muses, probably ought to have done an Idylle Duet with rose and oud instead of rose and patchouli to show they are going with the flow of society...

Annick Goutal Le Mimosa Fetes Spring with a Big Splash of Yellow (2011) {New Fragrance}

goutal_mimosa_window_A.jpg

Beloved for its delicate smell and winter-to-spring transition symbolicism, mimosa which once was hard to come by in perfumery, has become more often seen or rather smelled since Guerlain Champs-Elysées launched in 1996. Still, it is not one of the most commonly worked-upon florals. This spring 2011, Annick Goutal are offering a new soliflore called Le Mimosa...

Acqua_di_gio_men_for_life.jpgArmani has launched a limited-edition flanker to Acqua di Gio for Men called the Acqua for Life Edition. It was inspired by designer Giorgio Armani's love for the island of Pantelleria where he regularly vacations. Proceeds of the sales in the US will benefit UNICEF during the month of March 2011.

In 2009, the Ritz Hotel in Paris launched a her-and-him duo of fragrances called Ritz Classic pour Madame and Ritz Classic pour Monsieur. The compositions are signed by perfumer Jean Laporte. Both scents are said to be fresh perfumes rather than gilded interpretations of the glitz of the Ritz.

Paris Hilton Passport Tokyo, South Beach, Paris (2011) {Perfume Reviews} {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Scent}

paris_hilton_passport_collection_ad.jpg

Paris Hilton is launching this spring 2011 her first collection consisting of a trio of perfumes united by an overarching theme: the jet-set life between Tokyo, Paris and South Beach. The tag line of the Passport Collection is "Come travel with me!." So far the celebrity has stuck to a more classic formula of single releases centering around her image. For the first time too, Paris takes the jump and appears as a cartoon on the packaging after having gone in the direction of costuming as a siren or Marilyn Monroe. She has not dressed like a Geisha this time, but as a toon wears pupil-enhancing contact lenses which are popular beauty items in Japan to create a doll-like look resting on dilated pupils and enormous eyes.There is also visibly an attempt to add a hip cuteness factor to her label by getting inspiration from Japanese animes and toy-inspired fragrance franchises like Harajuku Lovers. The Passport Collection scents are not necessarily targeting markets in Asia but are certainly tapping into the vogue for oh-so-cute Nippon pop culture...

Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater, Lavender, Lily (2011): Back to the Soliflores {New Fragrances}

crabtree_floral_collection.jpgCrabtree and Evelyn have expanded their collection of soliflores entitled the Floral Fragrance Collection with the addition of Rosewater, Lavender and Lily (for lily of the valley.) Last year, they launched Iris.

I am not sure whether we can still say that soliflores are a little quaint since they seem to be around quite a lot. There would be nonetheless the closet soliflores like Chloé EDP, By Kilian Love & Tears, Surrender and as in the case of Crabtree and Evelyn, the open ones...
