Un Brin de Réglisse by Hermès: the 7th Hermessence {New Fragrance}

Un Brin de Réglisse_Illustration.gif

The 7th perfume in the exclusive boutique collection Hermessences by Hermès is a lavender and licorice fragrance called Un Brin de Réglisse (lit. a strand of licorice or fig. a tad of licorice).

It was composed by Hermès in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena and is said to be based on an accord combining a dry, re-worked lavender and a dash of licorice........

Pawfum by Juicy Couture {New Pet Perfume} Polished Paws {Beauty Notes}

Pawfum Juicy Couture.jpg
The pet haute perfume category seems to be picking up since its revival by Etienne de Swardt with Oh My Dog! If the Romans already had the idea of perfuming animals and if some pooh lovers might have occasionally directed a perfume atomizer towards theirs favorite pets, one cannot say that the association of fine fragrances and pet animals has become a natural one, yet......

Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection by Etat Libre d'Orange {Perfume Review & Musings} {New Fragrance}

Rossy de Palma.jpg
Rossy de Palma at the launch party for Eau de Protection

Rossy de Palma is this wonderful Spanish character actress - one of Almodovar's fetish actresses - with the most atypical of physiques, one that seems to combine references to both El Greco and Pablo Picasso's works. Is it a coincidence or the sum of ancestral genius and powers of observation of two great Spanish painters that have extracted certain specific traits found in their compatriots? Rossy de Palma's face offers the same elongated and sharp-as-a-knife-blade likeness to an El Greco figure as well as the boldness and asymmetry of a woman's face quietly rendered by Picasso (cf. Le Mystère Picasso by Clouzot). And she dreamed to capture the elusive scent of the rose.

The Wish

Eau de Protection (Protective Eau), the latest creation by Etat Libre d'Orange is a perfume à la commande, a custom-made perfume for a strong personality and secondarily, a celebrity. Rather than to take the well-trodden path of the design celebrity perfume which aims essentially to please millions of potential wearers more desperately than the celebrity herself or himself, would the marketers be asked to tell the truth in a confessional, Etat Libre d'Orange, being a niche perfumery, has the luxury to take more idiosyncratic risks......

Can Can by Paris Hilton: The Ad {Scented Image} {New Perfume}

Paris Hilton Can Can Ad.jpg

OMG!! I can't close my jaw I am so stupefied by the kitschy character of the advert for the new Paris Hilton Can Can! Actually I finally managed to, but I am still experiencing a cramp of disbelief in my jaw muscles.

This is her 4th women's fragrance (she also released at least one men's fragrance) and this time the aesthetics for the promotion images seem to be a cross between the universes of a beauty contest show for little girls + Valentine Day Chocolate box + Moulin Rouge as seen through a touristy snow ball + a Barbie doll package......

Le B by Agnès B {New Fragrance}

Le B Agnès B.jpg

French designer Agnès B has decided to revisit her first fragrance creation called Le B, issued some twenty years ago, with the help of perfumer Olivia Giacobetti. She wanted to translate this time a memory of a summer vacation with the following words submitted to the perfumer's imagination: "sun, fresh, cotton, laziness, blond sand, white flowers, rumpled linen".......

Go Green Fragrance Spritzer by Lush {New Fragrance}

Go Green Spritzer Lush.jpg

Lush UK is going to launch a new perfume called Go Green Fragrance Spritzer. It was inspired by green activist Rebecca Lush (she is not a fictional character).

Interestingly and somewhat humorously, perfumer Mark Constantine says that he created the perfume "....for Rebecca and other people who cycle and take public transport to work," seeming to allude unvoluntarily to the 19th century topos of the "stinking masses"......

Unforgivable Woman by Sean John {Perfume Short (Review)} {New Fragrance}

Unforgivable_Woman.jpg

Unforgivable Woman by Sean John is, perhaps not surprisingly so, like the macho dream of a women's fragrance. The slight surprise comes with the realization that this is not just a sexy fragrance. The scandalous flavor of the ad campaign made one expect to discover a sulfurous potion. It is indeed a man's trap, but in a more complete sense. In this case and after a while the soft powdery and creamy floral that is Unforgivable Woman betrays the desire of the man who envisioned it to be both seduced and protected by the woman who wears it. The age-old dichotomies of "la mama y la puta" or again the virgin-mother and the whore are somehow weaved into the perfume with its suggestions of innocent baby powder and powdered milk allied with the subliminally comforting notes of apple, pina colada, coconut, and orange flower and then the racier musk, patchouli, and woods.........

The fragrance was created by a young perfumer from Grasse, Franck Lions......

Amethyst Fatale by Oriflame {New Perfume}

Amethyst Oriflame.jpg

According to Cosmetics Design, the Sweden-based brand Oriflame launched a new perfume called Amethyst Fatale in its Gem Collection (it sounds like a twin concept of the one developed by Olivier Durbano who also has a fragrance called Amethyst; Lalique also is launching a scent called Amethyst this fall... oh my!)). Purple and fuschia colors are back in vogue this fall in fashion, makeup, and perfumes and the new Amethyst seems to fit nicely in this trend. A second trend in which it fits is that it is an iris fragrance inspired by the purple gem.

Oriflame says that they want to promote a perfumery for connoisseurs rather than for fans (it's a dig at celebrity fragrances).....

Gap Family of Scents is Expanding: Individuals & G7 for Men Collections {New Perfumes - Colognes}

Individuals Photos.jpg
Individuals Gap.jpg
Gap is very much interested in perfumes this fall and is making a sort of comeback and more in that area. After having launched two recent collections of perfumes that contained multiple entries, they are doing it again with two more collections: Individuals and G7 for Men, the latter being a perfume and grooming line for men. The inspiration this time derives less from the materials used themselves than from moral types......
