Demeter have launched three new floral fragrances for this Valentine's Day inspired by the spirit of love and once again by American pop culture. Be My Valentine, Call Me, and Love Me are perfume interpretations of the Necco conversation hearts (In 2008, Necco will be offering love and weather forecasting messages!). The perfumes are in fact all described as "romantic floral bouquets" rather than to-the-letter candied gourmand fragrances.
Be My Valentine is " A unique, sparkling scent with peach skin, strawberry leaf, caramelized sugar and ylang ylang that captures the magic of Valentine’s Day itself in a bottle, all year around."......

Versace is going to introduce a new cologne called Versace Pour Homme, inspired by a return to Mediterranean roots and Donatella Versace's father. He loved to wear neroli and the scent features this note. Interestingly, Versace is promoting this time a minimalist approach to perfume composition thinking that too many fragrances in the market are too ornamented and made with too many notes. Versace wanted its scent to smell simple and strong....

Etat Libre d'Orange is on the verge of launching its new fragrance, Tom of Finland. WWD reports that the Tom of Finland foundation, which commissioned it, requested that it, "does not disturb the odor of men,". The perfumer-composer for the fragrance is Antoine Lie and to him it had to smell like "a guy coming out of a shower. He's clean, but not fragranced. And he puts on leather pants.". There is also an outdoorsy aspect to the scent and themes of "metal, leather, sensuality, beauty and radiance" inspired by Tom of Finland's drawings. Perfume wearers will be carded -- that's right -- as a suggestive sketch is part of the outer packaging. You will have to be 21 in the US and 18 elsewhere (how will you be able to buy it over the phone?) Well, it looks like it will be the first non-liberated Etat Libre d'Orange and will serve to underline all the straight-laced Victorian values surviving from the era of our great-great-let me add one more-great grand-fathers .....

 L'Occitane is launching a new unisex perfume in February of 2008 called Feu d'Orange (Fire of Oranges) inspired by Sicilian orchards. Notes include Sicilian blood orange, sweet orange, Calabrian tangerine, lemon, vetiver, gaiac, vanilla resin, and incense. The Eau de Toilette Intense will retail for 39 € and the Soft Skin Oil for 29, 50 €......

 Oscar De La Renta, the designer brand owned by Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, will release a new perfume from March 1, 2008 called Oscar Fresh Vanilla. It comes after Oscar Bamboo and Oscar Pink-Lily. "The juice is described as a fusion of bright notes and warm seduction." Top notes are bergamot and blackcurrant; heart notes are rose, marshmallow, orange blossom; base notes are vanilla, Peru Balsam, and musk. (Source: The Moodie Report)
 Serge Lutens will release a new perfume in March of 2008 called Five O' Clock Au Gingembre (Five O'Clock, With Ginger). It is said to be a study on the sensation of preciousness, conjuring up the vision of a black Rolls Royce slowly driving in a wintry landscape. The jus is described as a smoky and lightly peppery composition with notes of candied ginger, patchouli, bergamote, honey, pepper, and dark cocoa. A 50 ml flacon of Eau de Parfum will retail for 73 €. (via Duftarchiv.de and Basenotes)
In the collection of Guerlain re-editions called Les Parisiennes, the new addition is called L'Âme d'Un Héros (The Soul of a Hero) in reference to " the legendary Roman general Coriolanus, who inspired Shakespeare and Beethoven, as well as Plutarch." It is a re-take on a former fragrance by Guerlain, Coriolan; as can be expected it will be probably inspired significantly by it but modified somewhat too and made more upscale thanks to more luxurious ingredients (see Mayotte and Mahora)........

Guerlain is releasing two new creations in early 2008, a feminine and a masculine respectively called Cruel Gardenia and L'Ame d'un Héros (see next post). According to Guerlain, Cruel Gardenia, in the L'Art et La Matière collection, promises to be a highly unusual and novel gardenia composition playing with emotions and memories of childhood. This emotional trend in perfumery is extremely interesting we think. In 2007 Serge Lutens Louve and Humiecki & Graef Skarb showed that a perfume can literally aim to manipulate your emotions. Cruel Gardenia, reportedly, was not treated as a classic white floral at all. The perfume was composed by Randa Hammami together with artistic director Sylvaine Delacourte.......

Parfums 137 subtitled Jeux de Parfums (Perfume Games) is a new French perfume brand that proposes an interesting, both learned and playful serialized concept, that of introducing each semester a new range of three perfumes meant to be layered in 7 possible combinations, which each time will be inspired by a unique, extraordinary story. 1 is for a story, 3 for the already mixed essences, and 7 for playfulness (they indicate in advance how the layerings smell). The idea is to progressively build a library of perfumes, one can assume in the tradition of popular serialized encyclopedia.
The first coffret offered by the house is called Nara 1869 and is based on a true olfactory historical event, one exhumed from a very little known discreet chapter of the history of perfumes.......

This spring Vera Wang will add two new scents to her portfolio, Bouquet and Flower Princess. Bouquet continues to develop the bridal theme in Vera Wang's Signature Collection while Flower Princess is a flanker to the best-seller Princess targeting a younger age group although this time we hear that they "...want to create a fragrance wardrobe for many princesses, of all ages." "Bouquet has top notes of dew drops, Sicilian bergamot and black current leaves; a heart of paperwhite narcissus and honeysuckle, and a drydown of lavender musk accord, Moroccan cedar and white iris root." Brazilian designer Isabela Capeto introduced her debut signature perfume called Isabela Capeto. While designers love to use their own names on perfumes to publicize the brand, they seldom use their logos as the shape of the perfume bottle itself. This time the first thing one will remark when opening the package is an adorable stylized plastic red doll inspired by toy art and a trademark of the designer. The packaging already made a splash, winning one of the Worldstar Packaging Awards in 2007 ........
