Estée Lauder Launch their First Unisex Scent Wood Mystique in the Middle East (2011) {New Fragrance}

Wood_Mystique_Ad.jpgEstée Lauder are turning their attention to the Middle East heritage with a new fragrance called Wood Mystique. The composition features the prized scent of agarwood or oud, which is at the source of the cultural shift of the last four years in perfumery from the point of view of an institutionalization process taking place within the perfumer's palette {see Are in the Mood for Oud Aromania?}. There will be a before-oud and an after-oud periodization as the material has evolved from being an exotic addition to becoming a full-blown major perfumery material in Western olfactory culture. Progressively but surely, all the perfume brands have been following suit. In the case of Estée Lauder, the approach can be said to be both global and regional in scope as we see a global American brand proposing an agarwood perfume to be distributed only in select Middle Eastern markets...

Hermès Santal Massoïa (2011): More Information {New Fragrance}

Hermes_Santal_Massoia_OK.jpgFollowing up on the previous post about the new and 10th  Hermessence, Santal Massoïa, we have a bit more news to share. As we had gathered, the fragrance is at one level, a study on the pairing of two lactonic woods, sandalwood and massoïa. But beyond the materiality of the perfume, there is the artistry of the fragrance.

"Santal Massoïa is a poem on the strange and the familiar, an enigmatic encounter, a perfume both inviting and distant."...

Guerlain Les Voyages Olfactifs 04 London: Of Green Grass & Boiled Sweets (2011) {New Fragrance}

Guerlain_Voyages_Olfactifs.jpgGuerlain have added a fourth chapter to their Les Voyages Olfactifs collection with 04 London. Originally, the scents included Paris in all of their titles, but the Paris-centric names have been discarded. After 01 Moscou, 02 New York, and 03 Tokyo, it is the capital city across the channel which is the inspiration for the new composition by in-house perfumer Thierry Wasser...

L'Occitane Rewards Emerging Perfumer Talent with Immortelle de Corse (2011) {New Fragrance}

Immortelle_de_Corse_perfume.jpg

L'Occitane en Provence have added a new fragrance to their Voyage en Méditerranée collection with Immortelle de Corse.

What is unusual this time is the fact that the new perfume is not the result of a brief given by the brand to a fragrance company to be developed but the acknowledgment and encouragement of the success of an emerging nose, young perfumer Claire Chambert of Expressions Parfumées who won the International Young Perfumer-Creator Prize in 2010 for the fragrance composition at the origin of the new L'Occitane everlasting-flower-centered opus...

First Look at New Comme des Garçons Perfume, with an Asterisk (2011) {New Fragrance}

Comme_des_Garçons_new.jpgLast Friday an inauguration party was held at the new Trading Museum conceptual space by Comme des Garçons which opened in Paris, after Tokyo. As its name indicates, it is a hybrid locale half-museum, half-store, where it is okay to just browse. Showcasing their own products and those of other carefully curated labels, the Comme des Garçons place takes on the dignity of a permanent cultural exhibition making you apprehend accessories and shoes as it they had accumulated meaning over the ages and survived the turmoils and ephemeral accidents of history to become precious, unique while still being made on the factory chains...

Salvador Dali Benefits from a Modern Adaptation with an Eau de Toilette (2011) {New Fragrance}

Dali Eau de Toilette_ok.jpgWhen the original Salvador Dali Le Parfum launched in 1983, six years before the death of the Surrealist icon and painter, the composition immediately struck you with its unique balance, softness and warmth, but especially its unique softness. It was one of the best perfumes that launched that year.

Composed by perfumer Alberto Morillas of Firmenich, the master has been invited to offfer a new, modern adaptation of the classic destined to today's young women. From being a floral chypre, it is now turned into a fresh musky floral baptized Salvador Dali Eau de Toilette while preserving core, authentic elements that made it reflect the tastes of Dali and Gala...

Hermès will Launch the 10th Hermessence, Santal Massoïa (2011) {New Fragrance}

santal_massoïa_Hermès.jpgHermès will release the 10th opus in the Hermessence boutique collection, entitled Santal Massoïa. The source of inspiration for the perfume is reminiscent of a work that in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena did in the past for L'Artisan Parfumeur called Bois Farine, one of his most original creations. In both cases an idea springs from a local species of tree with an ambiguous, edible smell. In Bois Farine the tree scent was reminiscent of flour and peanut, in Santal Massoïa, the Massoïa tree bark wafts of coconut...

Ed Hardy Villain for Women and Men: Bad is Better (2011) {New Fragrances}

villain_duo_ed_hardy.jpgEd Hardy launched a new duo of fragrances called Villain for Women and Men, which might or might not have been heavily inspired by Lady Gaga. More assuredly, the scents tap into the villain archetype, which Salo Lekach, CEO of New Wave Fragrances claims is much more popular today than the hero one (hmm, and what about the return of Captain America and the demise of some foreign, well-hidden-in-far-off-places political leaders to international acclaim?)...
