Ed Hardy have introduced two new perfumes for women and men called Ed Hardy for Women and Ed Hardy for Men. If the names of the fragrances themselves may sound a bit staid, the packagings are definitely not. Under the stewardship of Christian Audigier, the rock n' roll identity of the vintage tatoo brand explodes. The French designer's style has been characterized as, "...fusing the best elements of tattoo, hot rod, and cholo culture along with a tinge of his native French heritage. The brand is rock and roll with soul, California through and through."....

Pierre Balmain, which interestingly Osmoz categorizes as an "alternative brand" - this made us do a double-take as cultural habits are hard to die but it is justified in economic terms - will launch a new perfume at the end of March simply entitled Ambre Gris. The mystique of ambergris is one of the most alluring in perfumery. It is also interesting to see that Balmain could not care less for the conventional seasonal divide between fresh and light for spring and summer and deeply textured for fall and winter......

Guerlain will issue two new Aqua Allegorias at the end of March 2008. Figue-Iris offers a composition based on fig and iris and Laurier-Réglisse on laurel and licorice. This is a collection that is particularly dear to Jean-Paul Guerlain. He is the perfumer behind the first one and Sylvaine Delacourte collaborated with Marie Salamagne one the second one......

June Jacobs is a brand of Spa Products that has decided to officially adopt an ecological policy in this beginning of 2008. For those of our readers who insist on using ethical green brands, this is one more buying option (we should probably devote a special section to natural perfumery as this is becoming more of an important sub-section of the market). They are releasing a new reformulated perfume called Better Love™ Naturel whose description sounds complex and interesting enough. According to the press release, "...as of the first quarter in 2008, all June Jacobs Spa Collection products will no longer contain parabens and all chemical preservatives will be replaced with natural ingredients that provide optimal benefits for healthy skin.".....

Mona Di Orio has released her fifth creation called Amyitis. It comes after Lux, Carnation, Nuit Noire, and Oiro and is said to have been inspired by the hanging gardens of Babylon. It is somewhat of a departure from her other fragrances as this time it proposes to explore fully the feeling of freshness,.....

As announced previously, Comme Des Garçons have started a movement of double-branding their perfumes by creating customized fragrances for celebrities and sometimes, alternative cultural institutions. This trend is mirroring the popularity of celebrity fragrances trend in the mass market without being exactly the same. Obviously the image references are going to be different to give coherence to the values of edginess, avant-garde, and cultural refinement that they represent. Hinoki by Monocle Magazine is one of these projects. It was created by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu, who is also very much a part of the creative team at the counter-cultural perfume house Etat Libre d'Orange.....

Les Espionnes Du Tsar - (Lit. The Female Spies Of The Tsar )
December 1st of 2007 saw the release at the Galeries Lafayette of a collection of 7 perfumes inspired by legendary feminine types rather than famous personalities by a new French perfume brand called Roméa D'Améor (website currently under construction -- update: the website is now functional).
The label was founded by Annie Vannier and the seven fragrances created by perfumer Pierre Bourdon. The idea behind the brand is to take inspiration from history as well as aiming to encourage an identity play on the part of women by asking the question, "which woman are you?" As the tag line goes, "Travel through time, cross the world to discover the secret perfumes of the great women of history....

After Tropiques and Benghal, Lancôme will release in February of 2008 a third fragrance in its Collection Voyage series called Cyclades, which is exclusive to travel retail in principle but usually make it to the discounters' and department stores' counters. The new perfume is inspired by the Mediterranean and more specifically the ambiance of a Greek village located in the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea...

Singer Hilary Duff is releasing her second signature fragrance called Wrapped With Love, which comes after With Love (2006), one of the decent-smelling celebrity fragrances one can find in the market. Reading the ad copy makes one think that Wrapped With Love might be a dumbed down version of With Love given the heavy stress put on very commercial tooth-achingly sweet notes. Honestly, the description alone could send a diabetic person into a coma, "Reminiscent of Hilary's favorite things, the fragrance offers up an absolutely irresistible white mousse chocolate note, wrapped in a combination of milk and vanilla beans.....

• Independent French Lille-based perfumer Hubert Maes is widening his distribution network beyond By Terry and is planning to release two new feminine perfumes during the first semester of 2008. • François Demachy has overseen the creation of a new version of Miss Dior Chérie called Eau de Printemps, which is reported to be even more floral. (50 ml, 54,59 €)....

The Body Shop have introduced two new scents called White Musk Blush and Japanese Cherry Blossom, both in eaux de toilette concentrations. White Musk Blush is part of a recent effort launched by The Body Shop to update and draw on the popularity of their original White Musk fragrance. The fall of 2007 saw the releases of a collection of ancillary products and spins on the original oil as well as a masculine version with White Musk for Men. This spring we are discovering a light, fruity-floral adaptation of the popular scent....

The Pink Room UK have released a perfume that can be characterized as being a "literary" one as it was inspired by writer Colette and her heroine Gigi. It is called Pour Toi (For You) and according to the copy outlines the progression of Gigi from the innocent days of her childhood to her later days as she blooms into a fully-grown seductress. Notes are: Lemon, Blackcurrant, Grapefruit, Rose, Fleur de Melati, Lily of the Valley, Sandalwood, Vanilla, White musk. A 50 ml flacon retails for $120, a 10 ml purse atomizer for $45, and you can sample it for $4 at Luckyscent.
Swiss Army, who have already launched three perfumes in the USA, South America, and the Middle East -- Swiss Army (1996), Altitude (2001), Swiss Army For Her (2002) (dates courtesy of Fragrances of the World 2008 by Michael Edwards) -- will introduce Mountain Water in February of 2008 and an as-of-yet undisclosed, secret fragrance in October of 2008.....

In keeping with the theme of a fragrant fountain in the garden of Shalimar as embodied by one of the most immediately recognizable perfume flacons in the world, Guerlain will release a new lightened version of Shalimar called Eau de Shalimar this spring from April 1st, 2008. (The flacon is in fact inspired by Indian art and is a stylized bowl of fruits but it has always evoked more a fountain to us). It follows in the footsteps of two lighter formulations of Shalimar called Shalimar Light (Eau Légère Parfumée), which were issued in 2003 and 2004.......

Thierry Mugler will release a limited edition of AngelMEN sub-titled Pure Coffee in mid-April of 2008. The original AngelMEN or A* Men was introduced in 1996 followed by B* Men in 2004. This new version takes as a point of departure a coffee note that was already present in A*Men, but which thanks to "new CO2 technology allowed the company to extract a natural note directly from Columbian coffee beans,".....
