 Spanish designer Jesus del Pozo has introduced his latest fragrance for women called Ambar launched to celebrate his 35 years of creativity. The composition, signed by perfumer Marie Salamagne of Firmenich, is inspired by the natural beauty of fossilized resin amber. The fashion designer added, drawing an analogy with couture, that for him amber in perfumery plays the role of a corset in period dresses, where it is not seen but can be perceived as it adds structure from below...

 The new exclusive library of scents of 10 perfumes by Dior this fall is entitled La Collection Couturier Parfumeur (The Fashion Designer-Perfumer Collection) (see previous announcement.) It pays homage to the New Look but also rests on biographical references to its creator. In an epigraph to the collection, which attempts to coherently capture the universe of the French couturier like never before as if it were an olfactory biographical mirror, we find this quote by Christian Dior about his own experience of the relationship existing between Haute Couture and perfumery, "You can't imagine how much know-how and precision it takes to create a fragrance.  Bath and Body Works' latest fragrance is called Dark Kiss and is launching with more fanfare than is usual coming from the rather low-key unselfconscious brand. Visibly, the advertisers got inspired by the idea of a torrid kiss and thought that customers should be able to see it: a video can be viewed on their site. The site has been painted with purple skins. If the voice-over sounds a bit tense when saying "sexy" in the tag line " Our dangerously sexy fragrance," there is nevertheless a genuine attempt at playing in the soft-porn register...

 Dior this fall 2010 have apparently much more ambitious plans than to just release a few feel-good flankers with some twists. Joining the club of, or rather reinforcing the ranks of mainstream designer brands which feel compelled to respond to connoisseurs' demand (see their Passage collection issued in 2007) by offering more exclusive boutique fragrances with a more selective distribution network, higher-grade materials and more niche-like compositions, the couture house will release a new collection of no less than 10 fragrances...

 Coeur de Vétiver Sacré (Heart of Sacred Vetiver) ( see flacon here) is the latest fragrance to have been released by niche perfume house L'Artisan Parfumeur. The composition is signed by perfumer Karine Vinchon of fragrance company Robertet, who also did the organically-certified L'Eau de Jatamansi for the house. More recently she seems to have been particularly appreciated by Omani perfume house Amouage as one of their go-to noses. She is the author for them of Opus III and Memoir Man, the latter still upcoming this fall 2010. The common point in her work these days appears to be a focus on an Eastern / Middle-Eastern sources of inspiration. L'Artisan Parfumeur is well-known for the stock it puts on exoticism and far-away travels to renew its inspiration (see for instance Dzongkha; Fleur de Liane). This new vetiver composition while remaining vague about any particular locales which might have been concretely visited does reference the East as the scent is seen as being " An offering to the gods, a mystical journey between West and East, a woody fragrance, light and magnificent..." The East is here characterized as " magic" and constitutes the final destination of a " dream voyage" rather than being presented as a page torn from a travel diary.  Following up on the news of the launch of John Galliano Parlez-Moi d'Amour, here is more information about the jus itself and the ideas behind its conception. Created by perfumer Aliénor Massenet of IFF, Parlez-Moi d'Amour (Talk to Me about Love) aims not only to be a wink in the direction of La Môme Piaf's eponymous song, but also to be a reference to a forgotten genre, the love letter written with ink on paper, in an era when the Gen Y members prefer to communicate via SMS, email and Skype. The new scent primarily targets young women aged 16 to 25 years old. The eau de toilette, to satisfy Galliano, had to be romantic, glamorous, rock 'n roll, classic, young and sparkling all at the same time, to reflect its muse, 17-year old singer and Gossip-Girl actress Taylor Momsen...
