This spring Dior will launch a new flanker to Miss Dior Chérie, originally introduced in Eau de Parfum concentration in 2005. It was followed in 2007 by an Eau de Toilette version. 2008 saw a vernal twist with Miss Dior Chérie Eau de Printemps and a summery one with Miss Dior Chérie Blooming Bouquet. In 2009, the new adaptation is called Miss Dior Chérie, L'Eau. The scent is still offered in an Eau de Toilette concentration, but a rethinking of the perfume has intervened one more time. The new creation is attributed to perfumer François Demachy who said...

The luxury bathroom and bath specialists Czech and Speake are preparing to re-launch three old favorites from their perfume, or as they prefer to phrase it, " Aromatics" line inaugurated in 1980. A perennial favorite is No. 88 (1981), a dark incense-y rose composition beloved by men, which has remained in production. Now another variation on this theme of the slightly Gothic Brontëan masculine British rose scent worthy of a Heathcliff character will be developed anew with Dark Rose originally introduced in 2003. A lighter, greener Rose dating back to 1985 joins the collection again too, as well as a different floral homage, the sunny Mimosa (1st version, 1986). Dark Rose, is " A rich and intense perfume. The spicy note of saffron is combined with
an elegant bouquet of Bulgarian Rose in the top note. Middle notes
feature a mixture of exotic woods, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Oudh
unveiling a dry down of liquid amber and white musk."...

Shiseido will release a limited-edition flanker to the original Zen called Zen White in April 2009. The tag line is a serene-sounding " The Perfume of Light." As underlined previously for Zen, but more explicitly stated perhaps this time, the new scent is said to include health-conscious ingredients with aromatherapeutic, soothing properties meant to relieve stress...

This limited-edition comes after Kate Moss and Velvet Hour. Aimed at capturing the transient spirit of a season, it is described as a fresh floral offering both a "dynamic" and "timeless" personality...

To inaugurate his new role as the in-house perfumer for Rochas, perfumer Jean-Michel Duriez decided to tackle the classic eau fraîche created in 1970 by perfumer Nicolas Mamounas, Eau de Rochas, a limpid-smelling, distinctive composition. Flankers of Eau de Rochas have appeared over the years but this time, its 2009 incarnation appears to play on main textures other than watery and crystalline. The new creation, reportedly freely inspired by its forerunner, is called Eau Sensuelle (Sensual Water) and will be released on April 1, 2009 in France...

When people say that the perception of a perfume is entirely subjective, they ought to turn to the phenomenon of copycat scents that seems to contradict their claim and get back to me. Well, one supposes they could pull out a single note and declare the composition to smell entirely different. Or that it reminds them of their aunt Irma who smelled of leeks and therefore the perfume must smell of leeks...

Nina Ricci will launch a new flanker to its blockbuster French success Nina called Love by Nina in March of 2009. If the first fragrance featured a caramelized red apple, the new version goes for more freshness by replacing that central note with a tart and crunchy Granny-Smith one. The composition is by perfumer Olivier Cresp of Firmenich who is also the author of the original Nina (with Jacques Cavallier)....

French fashion label Zadig et Voltaire founded by Thierry Gillier, whose basic tenet is to provide " affordable luxury" will launch their first personal fragrance with the help of niche perfume house Le Labo*. The house already has a line of scented candles. The new fragrance is titled Tome 1 La Pureté (Volume 1 - Purity). As its name indicates it is the inaugural episode of an olfactory narrative that will be developed over the course of time . In this first chapter, the scent aims to tell the story of a fallen angel, one of the symbols of the Zadig et Voltaire brand...

Kelly Calèche Eau de Toilette was launched in the summer of 2007 followed in 2008 by a pure parfum version. The Kelly Calèche Eau de Parfum iteration is the latest olfactory form and incarnation of Kelly Calèche to come out of Hermès in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena's perfume organ. While the first-in-the-series composition was not unpleasant, it had come across to me as being on the conservative side and I put off reviewng it for lack of any very definite ideas about it. The new EDP on the other hand has more personality and a winning softness and fruitiness. It also shocks you with the liberty it takes with the original rendition. More than just being an intensified version of the original eau de toilette (In fact, it is softer; I have not smelled the parfum form, but it looks like it has been re-worked to new effect as well), it is a new interpretation of the formula, different enough to be considered a major variation, perhaps even a slight departure from the initial more Hermès-focused theme with its more palpable and central reference to the house's vault of precious skins. The initial concept of a precious floral leather has become even more subtle in its treatment of the leather notes made buttery-creamy and soft. And here comes the surprise, it is also much fruitier, showcasing a green melon note that we saw last year in Un Jardin Après La Mousson... Official notes are: Barenia, Agneau Plongé, vegetable vine rose, irisey violet, a veil of vanilla...

California-based niche perfumery Strange Invisible Perfumes which takes its name from an evocative Shakespeare quote found in Antony and Cleopatra: " From the barge a strange invisible perfume hits the sense of the adjacent wharfs" will offer unconventional if not strange flowers for us to smell this spring. House perfumer Alexandra Balahoutis is going to launch three perfumes in March of 2009 which are updated takes on the genre of the romantic soliflores those scents based on a main floral note for illustration or inspiration as it was more commonly done in the 19th century and early 20th century. The three " iconic floral notes" chosen have been made part of three modernized compositions: Epic Gardenia, Aquarian Roses, and Urban Lily. Alexandra Balahoutis said, "Past fragrances have been about complex tapestries and different
essences with unlikely synergies," "But for
spring, I really wanted to step back and revisit the idea of a single
note floral in a contemporary context."...

Donna Karan New York is preparing to launch a new men's perfume called DKNY Men. Although this is not advertised, another DKNY Men was introduced in 2000 which is discontinued now but still available at discount stores online. The new DKNY Men is described as a citrus, floral, and woody scent (the old one had facets of lavender, amber, spices, and woods). It was created by perfumers Alberto Morillas and Harry Fremont over the course of more than a year. Donna Karan said, "DKNY Men is all about the man and the city. It takes a certain kind of
guy to live and thrive in New York [and] I wanted a scent to speak to
his unique style and strength. That is why we chose Mark Vanderloo to
represent both DKNY fashion and fragrance. He embodies the DKNY Man."...

Coty is going to launch a new Stetson cologne targeting younger men called All American in March of 2009. Coty want to reach out to consumers aged between 25 and 35 while at the present their typical client is 35+. This move is aimed at consolidating their leadership position in the mass market as Stetson is placed # 1 in the US mass-market brand. What values the All American young male is supposed to embody? "We see the All American man as an adventurous, rugged, masculine man who is a risk taker."

John Varvatos will introduce in February 2009 its third masculine fragrance called simply Artisan with the tag line: " The Past and the Future, Artfully Interwoven." The perfume flask is encased in a beautiful hand-made and distressed rattan outer-covering in reference to antique perfume casings. When the pace of the economy is slowing down, how appropriate and psychologically astute isn't it to turn to the soothing feeling of a simpler and slightly more bucolic past? The citrus composition is by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux, who also created the two previous men's colognes for the brand, John Varvatos and Vintage. According to Nicholas Ratut of JV Fragrance & Skincare, a division of Shiseido, "We feel there's nothing industrial or corporate about this fragrance; it's very classic, but with a twist."...
