Lush's New Baby: Gorilla Perfume Tuca Tuca (2010) {New Perfume - New Brand}

tuca-tuca-perfume-bottles.jpg

British toiletry and perfume makers Lush have created a new brand-within-the-brand called Gorilla Perfume. It is arising from the ashes of the regretfully departed B Never Too Busy to be Beautiful, but tear up not as some of their former B offerings will be back. This summer, Gorilla Perfume will present a new collection of fine fragrances as well. The first one to be unveiled to the public in a preview format is Tuca Tuca, a fragrance inspired by the Italian song and dance "Tuca Tuca" sung and performed by Raffaella Carra (you can check the video after the jump.)

I should mention that my review of one of their current bestsellers, Vanillary, which I then entitled King Kong Passion was written more than a year before the birth of "Gorilla Perfume." I suppose I was on to something when I smelled in it an "...atmosphere of island excess and feverish drumming. Think about the haunting sound of the tam-tams on Skull Island where King-Kong awaits its next victim who has been bathed in an exotic-floral-and-vanilla-oil-maceration to please the muffle of the beast at the sacrificial moment"....

Nice-based perfumer Mona di Orio will launch a new trio of fragrances in a collection entitled Les Nombre d'Or (The Golden Sections) which comprises three different odes to a material: Ambre, Musc and Cuir (Leather). The compositions are inspired by the notion of divine proportion which has always fascinated the perfumer and which she sees as a key to understanding the meaning of beauty...

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Trianon Palace Versailles (2010): A Homage to the Woody Aromas of the Royal Domain {New Fragrance}

trianon-palace-versailles-kurkdjian.jpg

Perfumer Francis Nouhran Kurkdjian, who opened his own perfume house last fall in 2009 in Paris, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, offering an initial catalog of fragrances meant to cover the 24 hours of a day cycle, just introduced a new perfume under his house name which was commissioned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Trianon Palace Versailles.

The new jus draws on the kind of historical reconstitution work he did for Château de Versailles with M.A. Sillage de la Reine, the recreated perfume of Marie-Antoinette, and the scented fountains of Versailles in the summer...

Kat Von D Adora (2010): Scent and Makeup Interconnection {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume} {Beauty Notes}

Kat-von-d-adora-B.jpg
Tattoo artist and TV reality celebrity Kat Von D has released her third fragrance following up on Saint and Sinner last year. It's called Adora and is accompanied by a limited-edition makeup collection comprising True Romance Eyeshadow Palette - Adora and Adora Painted Love Lipstick.

The colors look a bit dangerous, especially in the eyeshadow pan, and feel like they would be great for Halloween (I know it's a bit early to think about that but that's what came to my mind gazing at the vampy, if not vampirish tints.

About the perfume:

"Adora means "Beloved One" in Latin. For Kat, Adora reflects the next chapter in her personal evolution--an introspective renaissance discovered through deep layers, stories, and scars. She's a romantic soul with an edgy exterior. Adora is a sensual and passionate perfume journey--unexpected and provocative.This scent reveals a stirring glimpse into an enigmatic life...tortured, beautiful, and brutally honest. "....

In December 2009, Loewe announced that they would release a new masculine fragrance fronted by Spanish bullfighter Cayetano Rivera. And now hot off the news wire, we learn that the name of the fragrance is 7 or "Siete." It is a reference to the seven capital sins, the seven wonders of the world and the seven cosmic laws.

The blue of the bottle was carefully selected to correspond to a color called "Peacock Blue" which is one used to color the matador's costume of lights...

Pacifica Mediterranean Fig (2010): A Homage to the Classic French Interpretation of Fig {New Perfume}

Pacifica-Mediterranean-Fig.jpgPacifica have released a new perfume called Mediterranean Fig which draws inspiration not just from nature but from the history of perfumery saying that it is "...inspired by the brilliant, classic French interpretation of fig, using all the elements of the tree, creating the sense of standing under its branches."

This is probably an allusion to perfumer Olivia Giacobetti's work for L'Artisan Parfumeur and Diptyque which gave Premier Figuier (1994) and Philosykos (1996)...

Lubin Bluff, Figaro, Itasca, Inédite (2010) {New Fragrances}

Lubin-eau-neuve-vetiver.jpg

Lubin, the revamped French perfume brand hailing from the 18th century, is coming up with four unisex new fragrances called Bluff, Figaro, Itasca, and Inédite. While their previous offerings were references, in name at least, to perfumes from the archives of the house, it seems that this time, the compositions while drawing inspiration from history are presented as novel. Bluff and Itasca are attached to the name "Le Vétiver de Lubin" and Figaro and Inédite to that of "L'Eau Neuve" who transform themselves from fragrance names into collection names while their bottles are re-utilized with a fresh coat of metallic paint...

Yves Saint Laurent Belle d'Opium (2010): More Information on the New-Generation Opium {New Perfume} {Fragrance News} {Scented Thoughts}

belle-opium-ad-2.jpg
The official concept behind the anticipated public launch of Belle d'Opium is not very different from what Opium purported to be when it launched in 1977, to be a modern-day Shalimar better attuned to younger generations. Belle d'Opium plays the same card but by being a direct descendant of its own oriental reference, its classic Opium ancestor launched in 1977 and 1978. The luxurious USA launch party, which is still remembered t day, took place on the Peking boat docked at the tip of Manhattan in the South Street seaport in New York City in 1978 with Yves Saint Lauren himself having come to introduce his new over-the-counter drug.

belle-dopium-mix-alexa-chung.jpgFor Belle d'Opium moreover "The idea is to reinvent the concept of addiction for younger generations today."

 If you want to learn more about the ins and outs of the original Opium launch both in France and in the USA, you have to read the fascinating chapter Michael Edwards consecrated this modern classic which was designed from the get-go to rival Shalimar by Guerlain (1925) while drawing on the popularity in the US of Youth-Dew by Estée Lauder (1952) in Perfume Legends....

Canadian fashion label Dynamite have ventured into the waters of perfume branding with a scent called Rachël. The feminine figure who lends her name to the scent is described as the imaginary muse of the brand which wanted to develop a personification theme for their ad campaign. Guess Seductive (2010) {New Perfume}

guess-seductive-perfume-B.jpg
Guess will launch a new women's perfume called Seductive which is meant to from a business standpoint to cement the vision Coty have for Guess: make the house's fragrance label more upscale and more present in the imagination of people when the notion of "seduction" is evoked. Coty's Steve Mormoris said,

"The whole area of seduction -- what Guess owns -- wasn't addressed in the fragrance market," said Mormoris. "

This is the first time that Coty will be developing a perfume for Guess taking over from Parlux Fragrances who oversaw the creation of Guess by Marciano which still in good standing on the Sephora shelves after two years. If you survive this much in the cut-throat atmosphere of competition of the contemporary fragrance market, it means something...

Fresh Eat, Pray, Love (2010) {New Perfumes}

eat-pray-love-fresh-B.jpg
Fresh will launch their first narrative trio of fragrances called Eat, Pray, Love inspired by the best-seller by Elizabeth Gilbert (which I haven't read but first became aware of its existence when I spotted someone reading it on the subway.) The partnership took place with Sony Pictures which are releasing the movie adapted from the book on August 13 starring Julia Roberts. She should be perfect for rendering, with just one of her famous smirks, the nuances of self-satisfaction and self-absorption necessary to pull off the role, from what I know of her acting and judging from the style of the book after a couple of pages.

The goal is to create an experience, not just a product and each scent recreates a different emotion inspired by the words of the book...

Coming this fall in September 2010 is a new vetiver composition by L'Artisan Parfumeur called Coeur de Vétiver Sacré (Heart of Sacred Vetiver). It was created by perfumer Karine Vinchon of Robertet who already collaborated with the house for L'Eau de Jatamansi, one of their organic perfumes.

"Journeys to the East are mystical and have always attracted explorers, poets and writers from the West. L'Artisan Parfumeur takes you on a dream voyage to the magic East. This noble vetiver, like an offering to the gods, is as close as possible to the wood itself."....
