Whimsy-rich perfume label Tokyo Milk, which now comes enhanced with more than a touch of mournful Victoriana flavor, have launched a new collection called Fate & Fortune in a Dark series which is housed in eye-catching long vials looking like cigars kept under wedding glass globes. Founder Margot Elena has dubbed them "roller parfum de cigarro." The collection comprises 6 new scents called No.18 Chance, No.79 Destiny, No.68 Tomorrow, No.21 Yesterday, No.26 Wisdom, No.85 Truth....

Yves Saint Laurent have dived into their past to propose a new collection of fragrances regrouping eight of their classics. There are four feminine scents and four masculine ones. The women's perfumes are housed in opaque, cubic beige bottles while the men's are in their equivalent black opaque ones. The point here was to suggest a checkerboard of perfumes on which men and women either cross by each other or engage each other...

Beauty icon Kate Moss launched a new feminine perfume called Lilabelle, partly named after her daughter Lila Grace Moss. Demonstrating once more her love of vintage stylings, the flacon looks like a flea-market find. The jus, a woody musky floral, wants to straddle the gap between girlhood and womanhood....

In-house perfumer for Dior, François Demachy, has re-interpreted the original formula of Diorling for a wider relaunch. The fragrance will be reintroduced in February January 2012 after having been kept available only in limited quantities.
The leather chypré composition was initially created by perfumer Paul Vacher and launched in 1963, the first posthumous scent to see the light of day six years after the passing away of Christian Dior, while the house has been entrusted to the art direction of Marc Bohan...

Husband and wife Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have teamed up this time not just to tour together but to launch a new duo of fragrances around Valentine's Day 2012 to symbolize their matrimonial union and soulmate relationship. The country stars had mentioned in the past wanting to do a collaborative scent project, maybe an unisex potion representing both of them. After testing the waters in the spring of 2011, it seems, with a commercial event which involved sets of their fragrances being sold next to each other with their own DVDS, they are now set to release Soul 2 Soul Faith Hill and Soul 2 Soul Tim McGraw. The country stars explained the name as being a code word for any joint projects they have undertaken since the initial Soul 2 Soul tour....

Crow Perfume is a new indie brand founded by Emily Lape, who was inspired to think of creating water-based perfumes stripped of some of their potentially harmful ingredients, after experiencing recurring skin allergies with marketed fragrances. The oniric influence of a dream she made after reading Aesop's fable, "The Crow and the Pitcher" apparently sealed her determination to forge ahead and is behind the name of her label...

Today and as announced previously, a new perfume destination in London was inaugurated, the Illuminum Fragrance Lounge, which houses Michael Boadi Illuminum collections of scents. Within that label, a new library of perfumes was created entitled Illuminum Haute Perfume which is reportedly even more exclusive than the original one where ingredients are concerned,
"British Perfumer Michael Boadi’s Illuminum fragrance collection is to launch one of the largest independent perfumeries on the planet at 41/42, Dover Street, in the heart of London's Mayfair. Based in an elegant Georgian townhouse, the 1500 sq ft of retail space will be devoid of counters and the usual accoutrement of retailing, and instead feature wide, modular sofas, soft deep pile rugs over parquet flooring and the calming atmosphere of a boutique hotel"...

Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli will launch a new women's perfume in February 2012 named Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum. It was composed by perfumer Louise Turner of Givaudan who selected orange blossom as its key note for its femininity and sensuality as well as its Italianness. As I mentioned previously, orange blossom has been very much reactivated as a central perfumery note in a number of launches over the past year or two and this only confirms the infatuation with the material...

As announced earlier, American household name Estée Lauder has decided to turn their exclusive attention to the Middle East markets by proposing an oud composition tailored to the tastes of the inhabitants of the region. While it has been noted several times on the blog in the past few years that the appearance and establishment of the olfactory note of oud within the palette of the perfumer is an East-to-West movement, it appears that for their latest atypical launch, Estée Lauder are also playing the acculturation card in the reverse order by introducing dewy and watery textures in a medium usually used to convey the deep vibrato of woods, the depth of animality and the smokiness of both mystical and erotic incense. Despite this crosscultural sectioning of aromas, Wood Mystique in the end pays homage, as promised, to the taste for riches and opulence of the Middle East. But there is a lesson to be learned here as well in the days of the modern-day sensory experience of the Western sillage: with this composition, we discover a type of sillage which is at once ostentatious and (nearly) private, in keeping, it seems, with predominant sartorial codes in the Middle Eastern cultures....

Angel, with Bitter Cocoa Powder, is part of the new limited-edition The Taste of Fragrance - Le Goût du Parfum collection by Thierry Mugler, which is motivated by the desire to bring closer together the experiences of tasting and smelling. It is of course an in-house homage paid to the founding ancestor of Oriental gourmands, Angel, as it appeared in 1992. The brand has decided to tease the frontier between food, drink and perfume in a very consistent manner. They are one of the several so-called designer labels which have the mind-set and the creativity of, again, so-called niche labels. With them really the distinction crumbles, and if there remains something of it, it would be mainly in terms of distribution.Their turning to wine-making and cognac-making techniques to age Angel and Alien has been a revelation for many. Then they turned caviar into a note to be smelled with Womanity. In the past, they offered the olfactory illustrations of the novel and movie Perfume. Angel was also turned into four different florals.Their flankers are usually both faithful and creative. Thierry Mugler see the new project as "a precursor of a gourmand haute-perfumery." They asked three perfumers, plus one team of perfumers, to create those gourmand variations which would enable people to rediscover their perfumes thanks to their "fantasized tastes." Chef Hélène Darroze has also contributed recipes for each of the fragrances. Angel Bitter Cocoa Powder was composed by perfumer Aurélien Guichard of Givaudan....

Ferragamo will launch a new women's perfume in February of 2012 called Signorina. While a recent article in the French feminine press revealed that women of all ages and who are mothers like to retain the term of address "Mademoiselle" as they associate it with a status of independence, the Italian-miss fragrance by the fashion shoe designer is really aimed at young women of 25 and under...

Swedish sportswear label Gant will launch a new eponymous men's perfume called Gant. Parisian niche fragrance house Les Parfums de Rosine are offering their more confidential interpretation of a "rock n' roll rose", a theme that has been popular in the mainstream markets.
Another meaningful trend they can be seen as illustrating is the fruity-floral leather, an olfactory family which has become the signature trail of feminine leather fragrances this fall of 2011. The new perfume is called Glam Rose. It was composed by perfumers Benoist Lapouza and Delphine Lebeau, based on an idea by house founder, Marie-Hélène Rogeon....
