Bien-Être Eau de Cologne à la Fleur d'Oranger (2011) {New Fragrance}

bien_etre_fleur_oranger.jpgThe Bien-Être Eau de Cologne is a household name and a staple in many a French bathroom or pharmacy cabinet. Over the years since the launch of the original eau de cologne in 1962, the line-up has become enriched progressively yet slowly. Lately it seems the movement has accelerated somewhat - even Bien-Être can't escape the dictates of Now, New, and Fashion - with the introductions of a lavender- and rose-based eaux de cologne. This year, in tune with the orange-blossom trend to which we shall return, it has launched an Eau de Cologne à la Fleur d'Oranger...

Arquiste Perfumes Capture Fleeting Moments of History (2011) {New Fragrances}

Arquiste_fragrances.jpg

A new collection of six perfumes baptized Arquiste (a contraction of Architecture and Artistry) will make its debut from September 2011 at Barney's in New York City. It is the brainchild of architect Carlos Huber who has translated his fascination for history and archeology into perfume compositions with the help of perfumers from Givaudan.

While historical perfumes are nothing new, often inspired by biographical portraits, what is noteworthy in this case is that each Arquiste fragrance is about recreating a precise moment in history, from the first encounter of the Sun King Louis XIV with his bride Maria Teresa to the afternoon of the day in which the great Russian poet Pushkine engaged in a fatal duel...

Betsey Johnson Too Too Takes Inspiration from Schiaparelli & Ballet (2011) {New Fragrance}

BetseyJohnson_TooToo_ok.jpgWhimsical, bubbly American fashion designer Betsey Johnson launched her latest fragrance called Too Too yesterday, on the day of her 68th birthday at the Milk Studios in New York City. It's hard to tell the designer is nearing her 70th birthday when you see her participating in the launch show by doing a split (check after the jump.)

The name of the scent pays homage to her past as a dancer as well as her signature style which she once defined as "take a leotard then add a skirt." As for the flacon itself, Johnson is known for her interest in vintage bottles of perfume which she collects and uses as sources of inspiration, like for her 2006 Betsey Johnson eau de parfum...

Tom Ford Violet Blonde (2011) {New Fragrance}

violet-blonde_Tom_ford_bottle.jpgTom Ford is adding a new fragrance to his collection of scents with Violet Blonde, from September 1, 2011. Fronted by Lara Stone, the perfume is meant to be a reinvention of the genre of the violet perfume once so popular in Europe to the point where it amounted to being a craze. While the eau de parfum is said to reveal the spirit of a classic European perfume, it was also reworked to feel energetic and fresh....

Swallowable Parfum by Lucy McRae: Your Unique Scent with Golden Drops of Sweat (2011) {New Fragrance}

SWALLOWABLE_PARFUM_ad.jpgAustralian artists and self-described "body architect" Lucy McRae has teamed up with Harvard biologist Sheref Mansy to renew our experience of perfume with Swallowable Parfum. Going back to an archaic method of fragrancing, which was used for instance by Chinese courtesans, today's version of ingested scent benefits from added technological sophistication and a new visual dimension.

"A digestible scented capsule that breaks entirely new ground in the science of human instinct. Once absorbed, the capsule enables the skin to become a platform, an atomize, a biologically enhanced second skin synthesized directly from the natural processes of the body."...

Lush Love Dates in Your Stead (2011) {New Fragrance - Limited Edition}

Love_Lush_bottle.jpg

Lush were inspired by the fickleness of love to introduce a perfume called just Love. According to brand co-founder and self-described "product inventor" Mark Constantine OBE, seeing his sons fall in and out of love was the main source of his inspiration. He said,

"Rather like their relationships, it took quite a while to get right. It is for flirts really, but being a flirt is not something everyone wants to be known for. On the other hand, flirting is so much fun. I have tried to make a perfume that will flirt for you while you pretend indifference...

Keith Urban More than Dabbles in Cologne with Phoenix (2011) {New Fragrance} {Men's Cologne} {Celebrity Scent}

keith-urban_cologne_ad.JPG

Country singer Keith Urban has released a new men's cologne called Phoenix.  It's his first. He joins the likes of Tim McGraw while tapping into the great American myth which was translated into perfume with, for instance, the Stetson collection. Unlike most other celebrities, the singer did not want his scent to be associated too obviously with his name. He said,

“The last thing I want to make a man do is: When someone asks him what he’s wearing is for that poor man to say, ‘I’m wearing Keith Urban,’” he said. “That just seems really awkward to me. I wanted to allow a man the dignity to respond with something that is a little more appropriate. Not too hoity-toity, not too chic and metro, something that’s got a nice, masculine simplicity to it. I felt Phoenix fit that really well.”...

CB I Hate Perfume 2nd (Alan) Cumming or the Anti-Celebrity Scent (2011) {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume}

2ND_CUMMING_Brosius.jpg

A little provocation doesn't hurt, so Alan Cumming is sticking to his original formula with his new re-release of the original Cumming from 2005 now called 2nd (Alan) Cumming. According to perfumer Christopher Brosius of CB I Hate Perfume who composed the perfume working closely with the actor, the perfume is the same as the first one. All proceeds will be donated to LGBT charities.

The 2nd Cumming re-launch took place at the Ace Hotel's basement club in New York City on July 14th, 2011. Little twists and whimsies were thrown in, like the use of a tub of men's underwear that had been copiously doused with the jus to let guests experience the scent in context....

4711_Nouveau_Cologne_Ad.jpgThe historical Eau de Cologne Mülhens 4711 has seen the addition of a new ambitious flanker called 4711 Nouveau Cologne. While flankers have been issued regularly by the brand, this time it is a flanker with a more far-reaching purpose, that of bridging a generational gap and more implictly, of catering to Asian tastes...

The tag line is "Break Free" and the perfume is said to be about the debate between freedom and fate.
