1528 Parfums Or Blanc, Or Rose, Or Jaune (2008) {New Fragrances} & Gold-Trend Alert

1528-Parfums.jpg
Zero Otto in collaboration with Italian Gold-leaf conceptual artist Anna Carla de Leonardis just launched a new line of perfumes in Rome. The trio of scents is meant to interpret her vision of art and creativity into fragrance. The perfumes are called after three nuances of the precious metal gold: Or Blanc (White Gold), Or Rose (Pink Gold), Or Jaune (Yellow Gold) with the tag line "From golden pictures to perfumes: art is transformed into its essence."

The new perfume brand is also inspired by the spirit of the Italian medieval alchemical tradition and by exotic materials brought back by travelers in past centuries...

They are Askew, Geste, Multiple Rouge and Eau Radieuse.

Badgley & Mischka Couture (2009): Red-Carpet Appeal {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume}

badgley-mischka-Couture.jpg
To fête the 20th anniversary of their label, team Badgley & Mischka have concocted a new juice meant to embody the dreams and glamor that their company was able to foster. The idea is simple: as Badgley puts it "One zip -- or in this case, one spritz -- and you're glamorous!". It is a lighthearted reference to the much more arduous preparation stars go through to get ready for their big day or evening on the red carpet.

Called Couture, the scent was inspired by a roster of feminine celebrities, and even icons: "Teri Hatcher, Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor, Eva Longoria Parker and Sarah Jessica Parker"...

Korloff Kn° I, II, & III (2008) {New Fragrances}

Korloff-Perfumes.jpgKorloff Paris will launch a trio of perfumes to pay homage to the 88 ct black diamond called the Korloff Noir said to be the largest black cut diamond in the world. Each perfume is numbered rather than named and meant to represent a different woman, a traditional idea also emphasized by the different colorings: Kn° I, Kn° II, Kn° III.

Juding from the ad copy, the portraits of these women sound particularly stereotypical; let us hope the juices are more lively...

Tova Ambre d'Oro (2008) {New Perfume}

TOVA-AMBRE-D'ORO-copy.jpgWill QVC be forgiven by the numerous Tova signature scent fans who have abundantly complained about its cheapened reformulation on this site? This is the question one can ask around the new Ambre d'Oro, Tova's fifth fragrance to date, due to launch in November 2008.

Tova Ambre d'Oro (Gold Amber) is inspired by scents indigenous to Italy and is described as a "modern musky-floral" playing as is usual for Tova the sexy feminine musky card...

L'Artisan Parfumeur Burberry Crocus (2008) {New Fragrance - Candle}

Thumbnail image for Burberry-crocus-Lartisan1.JPGLast year, L'Artisan Parfumeur started a collaboration with British fashion brand Burberry working in particular with artistic director Christopher Bailey to release a series of four-seasons candles. L'Artisan have lately been engaged in a number of co-branding ventures, bringing their know-how and good reputation to similarly finely reputed brands interested in developing perfumes.

The first one in the collection was Burberry Hearth introduced in the fall of 2007 which was inspired by the autumnal atmosphere of the English countryside with its scents of fall leaves and forest-y humus, which all sound very appealing this October 2008...

Eau d'Italie Baume du Doge (2008): The Scent of Thriving Venice {New Perfume}

Baume-Du-Doge copy.jpg
Eau d'Italie is preparing to launch a new perfume with a richly evocative name, Baume du Doge. It is inspired by the vision of a past trading and thriving Venice seen as a crossroads of civilizational and material influences,

"Roots, barks, seeds, pistils, flowers, rhizomes and resins took hold of the local
taste, flanking and often blending with local produce. Thus myrrh and
frankincense, saffron and clove, cardamom and vanilla met sweet oranges, sharp
bergamots and wild fennel in a rich and warm fusion, the use of which ranged
from medicine to perfumery, often at the same time...

Paris Hilton Fairy Dust (2008): They Love To Hate Her {New Fragrance} {Celebrity Perfume}

Fairie-Dust.jpgParlux Fragrances know about the media-attention capital Paris Hilton possesses and that's the main point,

"Katz takes a wide-gauge view of the Hilton business. To him, a fragrance launch is a process of bringing news to the Hilton customer. Whether it results in the sales of the new fragrance or stimulates sales of an earlier scent is of little consequence. The object is to energize the customer base and whet its appetite."...

By Kilian Prelude To Love, Invitation (2008): Citruses & Preciousness {Perfume Review} {New Fragrance}

Prelude-To-Love.jpg

Prelude To Love, Invitation is the seventh fragrance under the label By Kilian and part of their collection titled L'Oeuvre Noire (The Black Masterpiece). It was composed by perfumer Calice Becker who signs here her fifth contribution to the line (See TSS's reviews of Love, Beyond Love). She is also the author of well-known fragrances marketed to the mainstream such as J'Adore by Dior and Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder.

Perfumery-wise the latest By Kilian appears to be a blend in tune with this year's interest for hesperidic compositions, even flirting with the genre of the Eau de Cologne, but almost more as a passing quote than as a main focus. Like for other By Kilian fragrances, literary references are key and shape in this case the personality of this scent inspired by an excerpt from a poem by Arthur Rimbaud, Bonne pensée du matin (good thought of the morning).

The perfume is best understood "read" together with the poem as it does not seem to take it as pretext for a further flight of fancy. Instead, a sense of faithfulness and interpretative effort appears to animate the composition, even possibly dictating its duration. How could a perfume be of epic-recitation length as in a cycle of retelling that lasts for 24 hours when it wishes to recreate the essence of the atmosphere conveyed by a poem, not even the whole poem at that, but a few verses that speak to its creators?...
