 Maître Parfumeur et Gantier have released two new compositions in their Parfums Historiques series. This time it is the era and glamor of La Cour Parfumée (The Perfumed Court) which is being paid homage to by perfumer Nicolas de Barry. Louis XV's court became famous under this nickname for its perfumed extravagances; even the glue used for wallpapers would be scented. Madame de Pompadour has also come down in history as a profligate perfume lover. Previous historical interpretations by de Barry in the same collection include George Sand and La Reine Margot....

 Design and perfume lovers can take note; Issey Miyake has introduced a Christmas 2008 limited-edition of the iconic fragrance from the 1990s, L'Eau D'Issey, as part of a special homage paid to his friend, designer Shiro Kuramata who passed away in 1991. Kuramata is the author of the sculpture-bottle meant to symbolize "... the union of two opposite forms: the sphere and the cube." It reportedly took them years of technical research just to be able to finalize the prototype model. Turquoise was the favorite color of Kuramata. The flacon has been issued in 2500 numbered copies. Each flacon contains 20 ml of pure extrait of L'Eau d'Issey, a scent originally created by perfumer Jacques Cavallier in 1991...

 Italian luxury shoe designer Salvatore Ferragamo will launch a new masculine scent called F pour Homme Black in February 2009. It is said to be a more intense twist on F pour Homme and is designed to be easily worn in the evenings. One can only appreciate the way the ad makes a statement about the kind of men it targets in not-so-many-words, by just offering a sartorial hint that seems to say, if you like to dress this way (the in, clean and stylish look with a dash of romanticism for the 30 something urbanites who read men's fashion magazines), then I am the one for you ...

 Italian niche brand Acqua Di Parma has released a new collection of scented candles for the home titled Design and Cube that offers a wonderfully bold, colorful and modernist décor appeal. Good to behold and hopefully good to smell too. Yellow is scented with the classic perfume of the house, Colonia (see also Colonia Intensa for Men; Edizione Murano). Red rests on a spicy accord. Black is dedicated to amber. The Cube sub-set also comprises White, a clove-scented candle. The Design ones are available in two different sizes. The big ones burn for 60 hours and the small ones for 30. 
 Beauty brand Carol's Daughter are outdoing themselves this fall. They have introduced two new fragrances, Sotto and Pearls, the latter being their first incursion in the realm of fine fragrances. Reminisce is a gift-set which includes Amandeep, Amaretto Truffle, Roses and Honey, Goddess Flower, just in case you are looking for Holiday shopping ideas ($36)....

 Innocent Rock by Thierry Mugler is the latest version of Angel Innocent. It was released in February-March of 2008 as a limited-edition in collaboration with Le Club des Créateurs de Beauté. It is currently, several months later still, their top-selling fragrance. The ad copy is meant to whip young women into action: " Indecently sexy, the innocent rock woman is mysterious, both provocative and sensual, she injects glamor into rock and seduces in the heart of innocence." Interestingly, and as becomes apparent once you decrypt the scent, the grape note that is showcased in this perfume, which caught my interest initially, appears to be a by-product of the innovative research that Thierry Mugler conducted for the luxurious La Part des Anges, only, at one level, to make the concept of aged liqueur be more accessible to the wider and younger public.
